Luis Enrique's PSG have endured a mixed start in Europe but are unbeaten at home this season

- Atletico Madrid have already lost two of their three Champions League games
- PSG will be looking to bring their strong domestic form to the European stage
- Recommended bet:
PSG to win and under 2.5 goals

Both Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid are making hard work of guaranteeing themselves a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League but it is the Spanish team who will be under the greatest pressure at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

Their hosts have their act together domestically and should be confident they can follow the lead of Benfica and their Ligue 1 rivals Lille in sending Diego Simeone’s outfit packing..

Team news

Gianluigi Donnarumma is likely to return in goal for the Parisians, but the home side look set to be without Goncalo Ramos, Presnel Kimpembe and Lucas Hernandez, who are all injured.

Thomas Lemar is a doubt for Atletico while Robin Le Normand, Marcos Llorente and Cesar Azpilicueta are all set to miss out.

The stats

Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid have lost their last two Champions League games by an aggregate 7-1 scoreline

PSG’s last five Champions League games have all featured fewer than three goals.

Both teams have scored in five of Atletico Madrid’s last six Champions League outings.

Under 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in six of Atletico’s last seven away matches.

PSG have lost just one of their 13 matches this season.

Luis Enrique’s side have won six and drawn one of their seven home games this term.

Prediction

Both PSG and Atletico Madrid would have anticipated to be challenging for one of the eight automatic knockout qualification spots in the new Champions League format, but both are making heavy weather of securing their places.

A win for either at the Parc des Princes would be a huge tonic for the victors, but the doubts are more obvious with regard to Diego Simeone’s visitors, who have endured a difficult continental campaign so far.

They needed a last-minute goal to see off RB Leipzig in their league-phase opener, but that seems to have just painted over the cracks as they were humbled 4-0 by Benfica in their next game before being surprisingly beaten 3-1 at home by Lille last time out.

Simeone’s side have lost one league game this season, but five draws from 12 outings have limited their progress and left them 10 points behind Barcelona, so they need to find their next gear.

However, it may not happen in Paris, where a 1-1 draw against PSV Eindhoven has been the only one of PSG’s seven games that they have failed to win this season.

They need to push on too after also losing 2-0 to Arsenal, but their strong home record breeds confidence and as their Champions League games tend to be tight, it is worth combining a win for Luis Enrique’s side with under 2.5 goals in a double.
