Mason Mount is ready for a new challenge with Manchester United after leaving boyhood club Chelsea.

The England midfielder, 24, has been handed a five-year deal — with the option of a further 12 months — after ending his 18-year association with the Blues.

He said: "It's never easy leaving the club where you grew up but United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career.

"Having competed against them, I know how strong a squad it is that I'm joining and I can't wait to be part of this group's drive to win major trophies.

"Everyone can see the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag.

"Having met the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn't be more excited and am ready for the hard work expected here.

"I'm hugely ambitious. I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it.

"I'll be giving everything to experience that again at United."

Mount joined the Blues as a six-year-old in 2005 and went on to make 195 senior appearances in all competitions, scoring 33 goals.

He won the Champions League in 2020-21 and also lifted the Super Cup and Club World Cup the following season.

United football director John Murtough was delighted to get the deal over the line.

He said: "Mason is an extremely intelligent footballer and has so many fantastic technical qualities.

"We've admired his talents for a long time and are delighted he's chosen to take the next steps in his career here.

"His style of play and attributes are a perfect fit for this squad and we believe he will only improve further.

"Mason is a world-class player but also has the ability to improve the players around him.

"We were particularly impressed by his strong desire to join United and his thirst for further success."

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly and co-controlling owners Behdad Eghbali and Jose E Feliciano added: "Mason is a consummate professional and a popular figure at the club.

"We want to thank him for all his efforts throughout his time at Chelsea."
