Arsenal -1 spread

Arsenal have won only one of their last 16 games at Old Trafford but given they are deep in a title fight and Manchester United are coming off a 4-0 drubbing at Crystal Palace, it seems likely they will buck that trend on Sunday.

The Gunners have taken 43 points from the last 48 available and are going toe-to-toe with Manchester City for the Premier League crown, suggesting they will put the disjointed Red Devils to the sword this weekend.

Team news

Mason Mount has joined Willy Kumbwala, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane on the sidelines while despite his pleas to play, Erik ten Hag has chosen against risking Lisandro Martinez.

There is more positive news surrounding Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay, though, as all three have trained ahead of this clash and could feature.

Bukayo Saka and Takehiro Tomiyasu have been described as ‘doubts’ by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, but the former has been labelled as such in the past only to feature the very next day, so it could just be mind games from the Spaniard.

If Tomiyasu is unavailable it could open up a space at left-back for Jurrien Timber to make his first start since the opening day, with Jakub Kiwior another option in that role.

Arsenal have taken 43 points from their last 48 available.

Manchester United have won one of their last seven league matches, with that victory coming against Sheffield United.

The Gunners have netted 27 goals in their last eight away games in the Premier League.

Over 3.5 goals has been a winning bet in the last five meetings between the pair.

Arsenal have won only one of their last 16 trips to Old Trafford, losing 10 times in that run.

Both teams have scored in seven of United’s last nine home matches.

Prediction

Erik ten Hag will expect a reaction from his players after their Selhurst Park humiliation, but with no defenders back in the side and Casemiro likely to deputise at centre-back again, things could turn ugly against the title-chasing Gunners.

Arsenal have been brilliant recently, winning four matches in a row in a run which includes a 5-0 thrashing of Chelsea and a 3-2 north London derby victory, and their away form suggests they can get over their Old Trafford hoodoo on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s men have netted 27 times in their last eight league away matches and that scoring power could see them run up a comfortable margin of victory against United.

The Red Devils’ sole win in their last seven league games came against basement boys Sheffield United and a visit from the rampant Gunners could see them humiliated for the second time in a week.

Ten of Arsenal’s last 12 league wins have come by at least two goals so given United have conceded 16 times In their dismal seven-match run, it seems likely they will notch another convincing victory on Sunday.
