Phil Foden to provide most assists

Manchester City continued their domestic dominance last season by landing a fourth title in a row and they will be hungry to set more records in the 2024-25 campaign.

No team had managed to win four Premier League crowns in a row, until the Citizens accomplished the feat in 2023-24, but they are likely to face stiff competition from the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool this term.

Last season

City won an unprecedented fourth Premier League title in a row, holding off Arsenal as they successfully retained the trophy.

The Citizens also clinched the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup but they were unable to win back-to-back Champions League crowns, as they were knocked out in the quarter-finals.

The manager

Although City landed just one domestic trophy last season, Guardiola was still able to deliver his sixth Premier League title since arriving in the Etihad Stadium dugout.

The 53-year-old Spaniard remains one of the greatest tacticians in the game and he was named Premier League Manager of the Season for the sixth time last term, leaving him behind only Sir Alex Ferguson (11).

Transfers

It has been a relatively quiet transfer window so far for City this summer, with 20-year-old Brazilian winger Savinho's arrival for a reported £30million from Troyes the only addition to the squad.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Sergio Gomez and Tommy Doyle have all completed permanent moves away from the Etihad Stadium, while there are still rumours around the future of Joao Cancelo, Kevin De Bruyne, Ederson, Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez.

Should there be any more departures, then it is likely City will dip back into the market.

Strengths and Weaknesses

It is hard to pick out weaknesses in a squad that have won four Premier League titles in a row, but perhaps the advancing years of De Bruyne and the injury issues suffered last season is one.

Ederson's potential exit would also leave a big gap to fill and while Stefan Ortega did impress when called upon last season, he is not at the level of City's number one.

When it comes to strengths, you just have to look at Erling Haaland, the Golden Boot winner for the last two seasons and a player that guarantees goals.

Rodri is the lynchpin in midfield and he is now a European Championship winner following Spain's success this summer, while there is further talent in the shape of Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes.

Best outright bet

While City should put in another strong title challenge, they do not offer great value at 11/10 with LiveScore Bet to win the league again and a better play could be to look into the top assist market.

De Bruyne has been the assist king in recent seasons and it is no surprise to see him head the betting at 9/4, but the 20/1 available on Foden is hard to ignore and he gets the nod.

The England international continues to improve each year and he enjoyed his best goals and assists returns in the 2023-24 Premier League campaign, scoring 19 times and notching eight assists.

Foden should play a crucial role once again and he provides great value to be top assister.
