Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor has admitted his side were "off the pace" in their disappointing 1-0 loss to Brighton.

Geum-Min Lee combined with Pauline Bremer in the 81st minute to bundle the ball in at the far post.

City have already dropped eight points from the opening six games in the Women's Super League.

Taylor said after the defeat: “Sometimes it's just not your day no matter how much you knock on the door it doesn't go for you.

"I'm just disappointed in how we played and dealt within those moments.

"We were just off the pace, half a yard too heavy or short, all those bits.

"It wasn't our normal clicking game modes today.”

City's hope for a second WSL title has now been cast into doubt having suffered back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and now Brighton.

The Citizens' next game is a huge derby clash with Manchester United, who are undefeated in the league.

And Taylor suggested that it is the perfect occasion to bounce back from a disappointing run of form.

He said: “It's not a nice feeling, you want to win and our proud home record has gone, but we need to regroup and go again.

"Any game is good to bounce back from. It's the perfect game for us [against Manchester United]."

It's been an eventful week for the City boss after he accused Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall of "bullying" the fourth official during their WSL match last Sunday.

The WSL powerhouses must now regroup if they are to claw back ground to Chelsea at the top.
