Newmarket's July Festival gets underway on Thursday.

It's the beginning of three excellent days of racing from Newmarket's July Festival on Thursday afternoon, and the feature contest is the Princess Of Wales's Tattersalls Stakes at 3.35pm.

It promises to be an excellent start to the meeting, and they race at Newmarket from 1.20pm through until 4.45pm. Conditions on the July Course are set to be 'Good to firm' on day one of the meeting. We've selected our five to follow at Newmarket on Thursday.

LiveScore Five To Follow at Newmarket on Thursday

1.50pm - Bahrain Trophy Stakes (Group 3, 1m5f)

The unbeaten Mandoob goes up in class and must be respected for Brian Meehan, while Stowell looks very promising too after just three runs - finishing a pleasing third in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot last time over 1m6f. John & Thady Gosden's charge could well be too good for these, but GEAR UP is worth chancing.

He had some smart form last year and has faced more formidable challenges than this in three runs so far this term, including when conceding a penalty in a Royal Ascot Group 2 last time. Cheekpieces go on now, and he tackles a new trip. It shouldn't be a complete shock if Mark Johnston's son of Teofilo does much better eased in grade.

LiveScore Selection: Gear Up

2.25pm - Tattersalls July Stakes (Group 2, 6f)

Both PROJECT DANTE and Eldrickjones had near misses at Royal Ascot last month. The latter found only Berkshire Shadow too strong in the Coventry Stakes (6f, good to firm) and is a key player, but the Norfolk Stakes (5f, good to firm) third may be the answer for Bryan Smart now. He didn't get the clearest run that day and was charging forcefully at the line. The increased distance should be a positive for Graham Lee's colt.

LiveScore Selection: Project Dante

3pm - Each Way Extra At bet365 Handicap (Heritage Handicap, 6f)

It's fair to suggest that SEVEN BROTHERS has taken a couple of backwards steps since a winning seasonal return at Doncaster in April. Kevin Ryan's charge could, however, blame traffic when he ran here in May and his York run since might just be as well overlooked.

First-time blinkers are sported here, and if they have a positive effect, he could build a challenge. Whenthedealinsdone, Mitrosonfire and Akkeringa arrive in winning form and could have more to come, while Boomshalaa remains firmly on the upgrade after a near-miss at Royal Ascot last time.

LiveScore Selection: Seven Brothers

3.35pm - Princess Of Wales's Tattersalls Stakes (Group 2, 1m4f)

William Haggas will be hopeful Al Aasy can land the spoils in the Princess Of Wales's Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket.
William Haggas will be hopeful Al Aasy can land the spoils in the Princess Of Wales's Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket.

He may have ultimately lost out to Pyledriver in the Coronation Cup at Epsom last month, but AL AASY did very little wrong and his previous pair of Group 3 wins at Newbury this season were very taking. The front pair were miles clear of everything else in that Epsom event five weeks ago, and, returning to the scene of last summer's Bahrain Trophy success (C&D), William Haggas' son of Sea The Stars looks the one very much to be with in the Tattersalls Stakes.

LiveScore Selection: Al Aasy

4.10pm - Edmondson Hall Solicitors Sir Henry Cecil Stakes (Listed, 1m)

There are just six runners, but this renewal of the Sir Henry Cecil Stakes is set to be keenly contested. Last year's winning trainer Charlie Appleby will hope One Ruler can get back on track, while Baaeed is 2-2 thus far for William Haggas and thoroughly merits a go in this company.

He isn't overlooked with certainty, but MAXIMAL was right in the shake-up for minor placings behind runaway St James's Palace Stakes winner Poetic Flare at Royal Ascot last time. There's nothing of that ilk in here, and Sir Michael Stoute's son of Galileo sets the bar for these rivals to take aim at.

LiveScore Selection: Maximal
