Sceptre delight for Furtado

Ivan Furtado secured the biggest win of his career as Just Beautiful charged to glory in the Sceptre Fillies' Stakes at Doncaster.

In the feature on the opening day of this year's St Leger Festival, the three-year-old filly was up against a stacked field including Chris Wall's Double Or Bubble, Jessica Harrington's Loch Lein and John Quinn's Highfield Princess.

Silvestre de Sousa was sure to keep her in contention throughout and made his move at the halfway stage to secure a fine win for her locally-based owners Gary White And The Giggle Factor.

Trainer Furtado himself is stationed less than an hour down the A1 in Newark and said connections' patience with the daughter of Pride Of Dubai has been rewarded.

He added: "She was always a great mover, and we always liked her.

"But she had the handbrake on (at home) for quite a long time — she started to properly come to herself about September time [last year].

"We didn't rush her. We always knew that she had something there — then from September time, we thought we had something special and fortunately we did."

Delighted Bardwell becomes a Legend

Persistence paid off for Gary Bardwell as he finally won the Leger Legends Classified Stakes aboard Natural Colour.

The Godolphin-trained three-year-old hit the front with a furlong to go and just about held on following a late charge by Shining Aitch.

Barry Geraghty was sixth on Mumtaaz, with Richard Johnson seventh on Greek Kodiac, but the plaudits rightly went to Bardwell.

The all-action former champion apprentice raced the inaugural edition of the race, which raises money for a number of charities, in 2010 and could barely contain his excitement after Town Moor triumph.

He told Sky Sports Racing: "I'm over the moon. Thanks to Saeed, what a pleasure to ride in these famous blue colours of Godolphin. I'm lost for words."

O'Brien highlights Dettori option for Longchamp

Frankie Dettori set for Snowfall ride

Aidan O'Brien has revealed Frankie Dettori is primed to ride Snowfall in Sunday's Prix Vermeille at Longchamp.

With usual rider Ryan Moore expected to stay in Ireland for Irish Champions Weekend, the Ballydoyle supremo says he could call upon Dettori.

The Italian rode Snowfall to Oaks glory at Epsom in June and O'Brien admits the pair are likely to reunite in the Bois de Boulogne.

Speaking to the Racing Post on Wednesday, O'Brien said: "Plans can obviously change, but at the moment it looks like Frankie will be going to France.

"At the moment it's looking like Ryan will stay in Ireland for both days of Irish Champions Weekend unless something changes."

Conditions key as King plots sensational showdown

inally, Alan King says the going will dictate whether he sends Trueshan to Friday's Doncaster Cup to face Stradavarius.

Trueshan was last seen taking out July's Goodwood Cup and King is tempted to send him to Town Moor for the 2m2f Group 2 contest.

A visit to South Yorkshire would likely see him encounter John and Thady Gosden's magnificent Stradavarius.

The seven-year-old returned to form to win August's Lonsdale Cup at York, bouncing back following a disappointing run in the Gold Cup at Ascot.

The Grand Visir, Rodrigo Diaz, Nayef Road, Alerta Roja and Eagles By Day are also set to contend but the hope is for a Trueshan-Stradivarius showdown.

But King appears coy on the situation, revealing he will need the ground to soften over the next 24 hours.

He said: "We need plenty of rain. If it stays as it is he doesn't run but he breezed lovely this morning and he's ready to roll if it comes.

"They could get five to 10 millimetres, so we'll just wait and see."
