Liverpool will be playing their first Premier League match since Jurgen Klopp announced his plans to leave the club

- Liverpool have won 15 of their 17 games at Anfield in all competitions this season
- Both teams have scored in eight of Chelsea's nine league matches vs top-half sides
- Recommended bet: Liverpool to Win and Both Teams to Score

Liverpool and Chelsea will compete for the first trophy of the English football season when they meet in the EFL Cup final at the end of February.

For now, though, their focus is on the Premier League as leaders Liverpool face a crucial few days in the title race, hosting the Blues on Wednesday before a weekend trip to Arsenal.

Chelsea have been in excellent form at Stamford Bridge but they have lost five of their last six away games in all competitions and are long odds-on to suffer another defeat at Anfield.

Team news

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah remains sidelined with a thigh injury so the in-form Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez should start in attack.

Wataru Endo is on international duty but Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai are pushing for starts.

Chelsea will assess the fitness of Christopher Nkunku, Malo Gusto and Levi Colwill.

Nicolas Jackson has not yet returned from the Africa Cup of Nations and the Blues are still missing the injured Reece James, Romeo Lavia, Robert Sanchez, Marc Cucurella, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah and Lesley Ugochukwu.

The stats

Liverpool have won seven of their 10 home league matches by at least a two-goal margin.

The Reds' last seven league and cup meetings with Chelsea have all ended in draws.

Liverpool have won 15 of their 17 games at Anfield in all competitions this season.

Chelsea have conceded the first goal in seven of their last eight away matches in all competitions.

Both teams have scored in eight of the Blues' nine league matches against top-half opponents.

Chelsea have shipped 14 goals in their last five league games on the road.

Prediction

The last seven league and cup meetings between Liverpool and Chelsea have ended in draws and four of the last five have been goalless.

However, a more open contest is expected at Anfield on Wednesday as Liverpool are in terrific goalscoring form, despite the absence of Mohamed Salah, and Chelsea have been involved in some thrilling games against the top clubs.

The Blues drew 4-4 at home to Manchester City and 2-2 against Arsenal, while also beating nine-man Tottenham 4-1 in north London in November.

They have conceded at least twice in their last five away fixtures in the league — defeats at Newcastle, Manchester United, Everton and Wolves and a 3-2 win at Luton — so backing Liverpool to win and both teams to score could prove profitable.

United and Arsenal are the only teams to have avoided defeat in Liverpool's 17 matches at Anfield this season and the Reds' last five home wins were by 4-3, 5-1, 4-2, 2-1 and 5-2 scorelines.
