Grimsby continued their fine away form with a 1-0 victory over Tranmere at Prenton Park.

Tranmere had come close to breaking the deadlock after 17 minutes when Kieron Morris’ long-range drive was saved by Town keeper Jackson Smith.

Morris soon again denied by Smith, who got a hand to the goal-bound effort before the ball was eventually cleared off the line.

Grimsby’s best chance of the first half fell to Justin Obikwu, but his close-range header was off target.

Rovers began the second half brightly, with Luke Norris’ flying header going narrowly wide from six yards while at the other end, Obikwu fired over from close range.

Town could have taken the lead from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute when Cameron Norman was adjudged to have handled – but Danny Rose saw his kick saved by Rovers keeper Luke McGee.

The deadlock, though, was broken just before the hour mark when McGee lost possession outside of his area and on-loan Coventry frontman Obikwu slotted the ball home from a tight angle.

Rovers pushed for an equalizer, with Tom Davies and Norris coming close, but the Mariners held on for their fourth consecutive away league win.
