Kieran McKenna's in-form Ipswich are challenging for top spot in the Championship

– Ipswich have won eight of their nine home league games this term
– There have been 44 goals scored at Portman Road this season
– Recommended bet: Over 3.5 goals

Ipswich moved to within a point of Championship leaders Leicester on Wednesday night as they beat Millwall 3-1 at Portman Road and the Foxes were held by Sheffield Wednesday.

And with Leicester facing a potentially tricky trip to West Brom on Saturday, the Tractor Boys could scent an opportunity to scale the second-tier summit on Saturday afternoon.

They will certainly be confident of doing just that with victory over Coventry at Portman Road, where Ipswich have won eight times and lost only once in the league this season.

Coventry, meanwhile, appear to be still finding their feet after losing last season's play-off final to Luton and head to East Anglia in 15th position but following back-to-back victories.

Team news

Ipswich loanee Omari Hutchinson came off the bench against Millwall in midweek after injury and could again feature. Midfielder Lee Evans is likely to miss out.

Coventry pair Fabio Tavares and Kasey Palmer are likely to miss the trip to Portman Road, but Liam Kelly was among the Sky Blues' substitutes for Tuesday's 1-0 win over Plymouth.

The stats

No side has plundered more home points in the Championship this season than Ipswich, who have taken 24 from a possible 27 on home soil.

Third-placed Leeds are the only side to have beaten Town in East Anglia this term, and that 4-3 win for the Yorkshiremen is just one of a number of high-scoring clashes at Portman Road so far.

There have been 44 goals scored in Ipswich's nine home league games, with all but one going over the 2.5-goal mark and seven of the last eight featuring at least four strikes.

Coventry have lost only once at home this season, but they have struggled far more on their travels, losing five of nine league games on the road.

The Sky Blues' two away wins this season have come at 19th-placed Millwall and 22nd-placed QPR.

Four of Coventry's last six league games away from home have generated at least three goals.

Prediction

Ipswich's near-faultless home record illustrates the task awaiting Coventry at Portman Road on Saturday – but that is not to say the Sky Blues cannot play their part.

Mark Robins' men have suffered a slight hangover after defeat in last season's play-off final, and the subsequent departures of key men Viktor Gyokeres and Gus Hamer, but they are still a competitive outfit and have won their last two matches.

And for all Ipswich's home dominance this season, they certainly are not infallible.

Town have kept only two clean sheets in nine attempts at Portman Road and the trend of high-scoring encounters on their own patch could continue against the Sky Blues.

Over 3.5 goals have been a winning bet in seven of Ipswich's nine home outings in the Championship – the exceptions ended 2-0 and 3-0 in Ipswich's favour – and odds-against quotes about that outcome on Saturday look well worth taking.
