Sheffield United to win

Relegated Sheffield United have high hopes of an immediate Premier League return and they have made a solid start in achieving that goal, taking six points from their opening four games and sitting eighth in the Championship.

Hull, meanwhile, took a gamble in sacking Liam Rosenior despite a solid 2023-24 campaign and, so far, that risk has not paid off, with Tim Walter’s men sat 19th on just three points.

The Tigers will be looking to get back on track soon, but the Blades could be too sharp for their hosts at the MKM Stadium.

Team news

Ryan Longman, Harvey Cartwright, Dogukan Sinik and Thimothee Lo-Tutala are all yet to play a minute for Hull this season and none of the quartet are expected to be fit for this clash.

Femi Seriki is the Blades’ only confirmed absentee, while striker Kieffer Moore suffered a nasty head cut while away on international duty with Wales, but played for the Dragons on Monday and should lead the line in Hull.

The stats

Hull are still searching for a first win of the season, having drawn three and lost two of their opening five games and the Tigers have netted only three goals in their five matches this term

United are unbeaten in the last six meetings between this pair, winning five times.

The Blades are also unbeaten in their Championship away games this season, beating Preston to nil before drawing with Norwich.

Both teams to score has been a winning bet in five of United’s last eight league away matches and Ollie Arblaster has netted in each of the Blades’ Championship road games this term.

Prediction

Walter has endured a tough start at Hull, drawing three and losing two of his opening five games in all competitions and even a well-timed international break and some late movement in the transfer window may not be enough for the German to turn things around just yet.

The Tigers need to start picking up some wins if Rosenior’s sacking is to be justified, but a visit from Sheff Utd on Friday is unlikely to provide the first of those.

The Blades were impressive when beating Watford – Tom Cleverley’s side had won their three prior league games – 1-0 last time out, racking up 18 shots to the Hornets’ seven.

Only five Championship teams have accumulated more expected goals than United’s 5.7 and they will be confident ahead of this trip, having gone six matches unbeaten against the Tigers, recording five wins in that run.

Hull have scored only three goals in their five matches this term and could struggle against a side who kept hold of plenty of their Premier League-quality players, such as Gus Hamer and Vini Souza and who have talent throughout their squad.

Back the Blades to maintain their unbeaten Championship away record this term by adding to Walter’s woes at the MKM.
