Huddersfield continued their winning start with a 1-0 home victory over winless Shrewsbury thanks to Callum Marshall’s first-half strike.

The Northern Ireland international put the Terriers ahead midway through the first half, coolly finishing after correctly gambling that Aaron Pierre would not quite be able to get a clean header onto Brodie Spencer’s cross from deep.

Shrewsbury almost provided an instant response but goalkeeper Lee Nicholls got up well to tip Tommi O’Reilly’s curling effort onto the crossbar.

John Marquis got the better of two defenders to get in on goal six minutes later but again Nicholls denied Shrewsbury an equaliser, sticking out a boot to stop the striker’s poked effort.

Huddersfield were even more wasteful at the other end, with Antony Evans looping a header onto the top of the net and Rhys Healey denied by the onrushing Toby Savin after being put clean through by fellow substitute Josh Koroma.

The hosts avoided any more serious threat on their own goal, however, with a clean sheet making it nine points out of nine.
