Fury over Glazer dividends

Manchester United Supporters Trust have publicly criticised the club’s owners over impeding dividend payments totalling almost £11million.

The Glazer family are set to net the majority of the biannual payout, which is being approved despite recent figures showing the Red Devils to be nearly £500m in debt.

Posting on Twitter, the Supporters Trust said: "So today, the Glazers pay themselves the lion's share of an £11m dividend at the end of one of the worst seasons in living memory.

"Reward for failure is poor practice in any business, and totally unacceptable given the current state of things at [Manchester] United.

"Both on the playing field and in the stadium, Manchester United is a club in dire need of investment.

"To see more money going out of the door to the owners whilst, so far this summer, seeing nothing invested into new players, is little more than an insult."

Erik ten Hag is still to make his first new signing as Red Devils boss, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata having all left for free in recent weeks.

Lionesses host Netherlands

England boss Sarina Wiegman admits tonight’s clash with her native Netherlands will be a "very special" occasion.

Wiegman, 52, enjoyed a glittering spell in charge of her home nation between 2017 and 2021, including leading them to Women’s Euro 2017 glory — the Netherlands’ first major honour in their history.

Now, she leads out her Lionesses at Elland Road in what is an intriguing warm-up contest ahead of next month’s continental showpiece.

Wiegman said: "It’s a very special game. I worked with that team for many years and it will be really nice to see them again.

"I don’t think they’ve changed that much, the players are still the same and they have the same qualities. Maybe they’re even better now.

"They’ve adjusted one or two minor things but they’re still a very good team I know pretty well. I think they’ll play their strongest XI."

England will also face Switzerland in Zurich next Thursday before getting their Euro 2022 campaign started against Austria at Old Trafford on July 6.

Dewsbury-Hall extends deal

Leicester have announced that midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has signed a new five-year deal at the club.

A product of the Foxes' academy, 23-year-old Dewsbury-Hall enjoyed impressive loan stints with Blackpool and Luton before breaking through at the King Power Stadium last term.

He made 44 appearances across all competitions in 2021-22, winning the club's Players' Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season awards.

Dewsbury-Hall said: "I’m so proud and I’m really happy. It’s a great day for myself and my family.

"A lot of hard work has gone into this deal and it’s a really nice feeling to get it done. Now, I’m just looking forward to the future.

"I have a really good relationship with the football club. I’ve been here since I was eight years old, so it was a no-brainer really when I sat down and we spoke about the deal.

"I’ve got big, big ambitions for the future and I know the club have too."

Welsh international midfielder Joe Allen will bring his six-year stay with Championship side Stoke to an end this month.

Allen, 32, held talks about extending his stay in the Potteries but has opted to look elsewhere — with a return to boyhood club Swansea supposedly on the cards.

Speaking to Stoke's club website, Allen said: "It's tough to be leaving but I believe it's the right time for both myself and the club to be parting ways."

Clowes makes Derby bid

Property developer David Clowes has said he will make a bid for Derby following his purchase of Pride Park.

Rams fan Clowes, 53, grew up in the area and has also provided the club with a loan to ensure they can start their League One campaign next month.

It is the latest development in an ongoing ownership crisis, with interested party Chris Kirchner having withdrawn his bid on June 16.

Clowes said: "With a deadline looming and the start of the next season getting closer, we needed to do something."

The EFL have voiced their approval of the stadium purchase, saying they "welcome the announcement" of Clowes Developments Limited's acquisition.
