Stay at home

Jurgen Klopp has demanded that Liverpool supporters step up the atmosphere for the crunch visit of Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Reds hammered West Ham 5-1 in the Carabao Cup quarter-final yesterday but their boss was not impressed by the noise from the stands.

He said: "In the first half when the boys played really exceptionally, I was not overly happy with the atmosphere behind me.

"We need Anfield on Saturday. Arsenal didn't play this week. They've prepared for this game and anyone who knows anything about them knows they will be prepared.

"If it is too much football in December, if you are not in the right shape, give your ticket to somebody else."

Super League still on the cards

A European Super League remains a possibility after a court declared that blocking such competitions was contrary to EU law.

The Grand Chamber of the European Court of Justice had been asked to decide whether it was legal for UEFA and FIFA to both block the formation of the league in 2021 and then seek sanctions against the clubs involved.

Judges have ruled that the governing bodies acted in a manner "contrary to competition law and the freedom to provide services".

It comes as a blow for UEFA, who must now explore different ways of preventing the continent's most powerful clubs from breaking away.

Pale imitation

Xavi admits his Barcelona side do not stack up to the one he played in and that they must make up for it with hard work.

Barca beat Almeria 3-2 on Wednesday but blew the lead twice before inching over the line.

And their boss was not impressed by the display, claiming his team must not believe they are as good as Pep Guardiola's legendary outfit that featured Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi himself.

He said: "The first half is unacceptable.

"If we lack effectiveness, at least we have to be aggressive. Either we run like animals or we won't get it [the win].

"We don't have the Barca of 2010. Forget it. We don't have that quality. We have to recover our soul.

"The reality is that if we don't give everything, it won't be enough for us against any team."

Barcelona are six points off the top of LaLiga having played a game more than Girona and Real Madrid, who sit above them.
