There has been hardly any time to breathe for football fans over the festive period and the games keep coming thick and fast on the first weekend of 2025.

We have picked out five goalscorers to follow from Saturday and Sunday's fixtures, with tips from the Premier League, Serie A and Scottish Premiership.

Joelinton's form has been key to Newcastle's improvement

Alexander Isak's eight goals in seven games, including five in his last three outings, has made him the talk of the Toon but Newcastle colleague Joelinton may be just as worthwhile keeping an eye on at Tottenham on Saturday.

The Brazilian scored his first Magpies goal against Spurs in August 2019 and has shaken off a mixed start to the season.

Joelinton's form has helped him score in his side's last two and that strike five-and-a-half years ago is one of four he has recorded against the Londoners.

Lille striker Jonathan David has entered the final six months of his contract and looks sure to secure a huge move this summer.

The 24-year-old Canadian has scored 19 times for club and country and will look to kick off what could be a big year for him with a goal against Nantes.

Les Canaris have won only once away from home this season and David could shine again.

Like David, Frank Anguissa's Napoli contract is up this summer and he is another player in form.

The Cameroon midfielder is a key part of Antonio Conte's squad and has netted in the Partenopei's last two away matches.

Saturday's hosts Fiorentina failed to win their last four games of 2024 and can be got at.

Injuries have hampered Danilo's progress since signing for Rangers in the summer of 2023 but he is enjoying a decent run of games and has netted five times in seven matches.

Those strikes include the final goal in Thursday's 3-0 Old Firm win over Celtic and with such a heavy fixture list, he might get a rare start at Hibernian on Sunday.

The 25-year-old could be a key figure in the Gers' potential revival and can continue his run at Easter Road.

Manchester United look set for a miserable evening on Merseyside against Liverpool, but while much of the market is focusing on Mohamed Salah, whose 12 goals and six assists are more than any other player in Premier League history, Luis Diaz could also shine.

The Colombian has scored twice in his last three outings and has also netted four times in six appearances against the Red Devils.

An elusive runner, Diaz is a real candidate to exploit the gaps in the United rearguard.
