- Three of England’s four Nations League wins have been to nil
- Republic of Ireland have lost 2-0 in three of their five Nations League fixtures
- Recommended bet:
England to win 2-0

England know that a win on Sunday would be enough to secure top spot in Nations League Group B2 and they will be confident of getting across the line against the Republic of Ireland at Wembley.

The visitors managed to pick up their second win of the campaign against Finland on Thursday, triumphing 1-0, but they face a much tougher test in the English capital against the table toppers.

Lee Carsley oversaw a 3-0 win over Greece on Thursday and will be aiming to go out on a high by winning his final game in interim charge before Thomas Tuchel takes over in January.

Team news

England remain without a raft of key players after a string of withdrawals from the squad, with the likes of Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Cole Palmer and Harry Maguire among those missing.

Captain Harry Kane should start up front after being named on the bench against Greece, while Morgan Rogers, Jarrod Bowen, and Morgan Gibbs-White will all be pushing for a place in the side.

Evan Ferguson is expected to lead the line for the Republic of Ireland after scoring against Finland, while regulars such as Will Smallbone, Seamus Coleman, Shane Duffy, Adam Idah, Chiedozie Ogbene and Robert Brady are all absent.

The stats

England have kept a clean sheet in their last three meetings against the Republic of Ireland, winning two of them, including September's 2-0 win in Dublin.

The Republic of Ireland's only goals in this campaign have come against Finland, which they have beaten home and away.

Two of England's four wins in the Nations League have been by 2-0 scorelines, while they have averaged 2.2 goals per game in this Nations League campaign.

Carsley was forced into naming a youthful selection of players for his final England squad after a host of high-profile withdrawals, but those youngsters took their chances on Thursday night as the Three Lions hit Greece for three to go top of Nations League Group B2.

Victory at Wembley would wrap up top spot in the pool, and they should achieve that relatively comfortably against a Republic side that have looked toothless going forward.

The Irish have picked up six points from five games, but all of those points and all three of their goals came against a Finland team that have shipped 17 goals in their last seven games.

All three of their defeats this campaign have been by a 2-0 scoreline and England have won to nil on three occasions, two of which ended 2-0.

They have averaged 2.2 goals per game in their five Nations League matches, so a repeat of the scoreline in Dublin appeals.
