Colchester moved into the Sky Bet League Two play-off spots after beating Fleetwood 3-0 to rack up a fifth straight win.

Fleetwood goalkeeper Jay Lynch thwarted Owura Edwards early on and then made a double save from Harry Anderson.

At the other end, Fleetwood’s Mackenzie Hunt shot tamely at Colchester goalkeeper Matt Macey, while Mark Helm also wasted a good chance.

Arthur Read’s 25-yard strike dipped just over for Colchester before Macey palmed away Owen Devonport’s first-time strike just before half-time.

Two goals in four minutes after half-time put the hosts in control.

Lyle Taylor gave Colchester a 55th-minute lead when he fired home from close range after being picked out by Anderson in the area.

Edwards doubled the U’s advantage in the 59th minute when he was picked out by Mandela Egbo’s pass to fire a shot under Lynch.

Jack Payne sealed Colchester’s victory in the 85th minute with a fine strike from the edge of the area as Danny Cowley’s side won again.
