Al Aasy denied at HQ 

Sir Ron Priestley returned to winning ways for trainer Mark Johnston as he kept Al Aasy at bay in the Princess of Wales's Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket. 

Jockey Franny Norton decided to make all onboard the five-year-old, before odds-on rival Al Aasy soon came up to challenge him. 

As the duo met the rising ground, Al Aasy looked to have enough, but Sir Ron Priestley proved a tough nut to crack and landed a famous win for connections. 

Johnston and his team are nowconsidering the Irish St Leger as well as the King George, but their options are vast after Friday's success. 

Subjectivist suffers season-ending injury 

Johnston has also confirmed that Gold Cup hero Subjectivist is out for the season after suffering a leg injury. 

The four-year-old grabbed the attention at Royal Ascot last month after denying Stradivarius, but he will now have to spend some time on the sidelines after suffering an injury in training. 

Confirming the news, Johnston said: "It's absolutely heartbreaking. The only positive we can take from it is that at least he did get the opportunity to show us what he could do. 

"Those of us that were there in Dubai thought that was a phenomenal performance, and at least it was confirmed in what I like to think was one of the best Ascot Gold Cups in recent days. 

"I don't know (if he'll run again)." 

Yibir outclasses his rivals at Newmarket 

Charlie Appleby saw another one of his three-year-olds land the spoils as Yibir won the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket on Friday. 

Appleby's Adayar and Hurricane Lane have already won the Cazoo Derby and Irish Derby this season, and Yibir showed he could follow in their footsteps for the rest of the campaign. 

Jockey James Doyle watched Gear Up take the lead in Friday's race, but Doyle guided Yibir to the front with one furlong to go. 

He held off Mandoob to claim the victory, and Appleby is excited about the future. He told reporters: "Bar the last Classic of the year, he's opened himself up for plenty of options. But we're very fortunate at the moment that the three-year-old middle-distance camp is very strong. 

"We'll put him back in the pack and see who is going where and doing what over the next few weeks. There's no immediate plans." 

Baaeed makes it three in a row 

Trainer William Haggas was left celebrating after stable star Baaeed made it three wins in succession after winning the Edmondson Hall Solicitors Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket. 

The Sea The Stars colt was up against it on Friday, with the three-year-old stepping up to Listed class for the first time. 

Maximal, One Ruler, Legion Of Honour and Naamoos tried their best to thwart him, but Haggas was pleased with his charge's performance as he won by four lengths. 

Haggas said: "He's looking talented. He's got speed, and his brother is a mile-and-a-halfer, so he's an exciting horse. 

"His pedigree says he could step up to a mile and a quarter, but his style of racing doesn't really say that. We'll see, (but) I don't think there's any hurry to step him up in trip."
