Bristol Rovers rescued a point in stoppage time as they denied Stockport making it six Sky Bet League One wins in a row following a 1-1 draw at the Memorial Stadium.

Sil Swinkels met Matt Butcher’s inswinging free-kick in the first minute of stoppage time to head past Ben Hinchliffe from Rovers’ only meaningful shot on goal.

The on-loan Aston Villa centre-back was making his debut and cancelled out Isaac Olaofe’s 53rd-minute strike.

The former Millwall striker grabbed his sixth league goal of the season by stabbing in from close range after a low cross from wing-back Jack Diamond was turned goal-wards by Kyle Wootton, with the ball hitting a post before Olaofe reacted quickest.

Rovers goalkeeper Jed Ward made his first start of the season after being recalled from a loan spell at Forest Green and proved his worth with two good first-half saves.

He tipped Will Collar’s header over the crossbar after 17 minutes and stopped Wootton heading in after Diamond stood up an inviting cross in the 41st minute.

Luke Thomas headed just wide of goal in Rovers’ best opportunity of the first half.
