Eddie Howe will be hoping Newcastle can impress when they face his former club Bournemouth

- Newcastle are unbeaten in their last five trips to the Vitality Stadium
- Both teams have scored in the last seven league meetings between these sides
- Recommended bet: Newcastle to win and both teams to score

Sixth-placed Newcastle United head south to face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday and Eddie Howe will be confident his side can get the better of his former employers.

The Cherries are in the relegation zone and may remain there at the end of the weekend as they face a tough assignment in the Magpies, who are unbeaten in their last seven league matches.

The visitors should be too strong for a side they haven’t lost to in their last seven meetings, but the hosts are improving under Andoni Iraola and could find the net.

Team news

Alex Scott limped off during Bournemouth’s embarrassing 6-1 loss to Manchester City on Saturday, so the midfielder will join Darren Randolph, Neto, Tyler Adams, Ryan Fredericks and Emiliano Marcondes on the sidelines.

Lewis Cook is back from suspension and could replace Scott.

Newcastle have a lengthy injury list of their own, with Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Matt Targett, Javi Manquillo, Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, Elliot Anderson and Jacob Murphy all set to miss the trip to the south coast.

Callum Wilson was taken off at half-time in the midweek loss at Dortmund, but he was named in the England squad on Thursday which would suggest he may have recovered in time for this test.

The stats

Bournemouth have failed to win any of their last seven meetings with Newcastle, who are unbeaten in their last five trips to the Vitality Stadium.

Both sides have found the net in Bournemouth’s last three home matches and both teams have scored in the last seven league meetings between these sides.

The Magpies have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight Premier League away games, but are unbeaten in seven in the top-flight.

Prediction

Newcastle can put their 2-0 Champions League loss on Tuesday behind them immediately with a win over manager Eddie Howe’s former side, who have failed to beat the Magpies at the Vitality Stadium in their last five attempts.

The Cherries have endured a tough start to life under Andoni Iraola and have lost five of their last six matches, with that run set to continue against a side who are unbeaten in seven and that beat title-chasing Arsenal in their last league match.

Injuries to first-choice goalkeeper Neto and key midfielder Alex Scott have only weakened their chances of getting a result on Saturday, although they may still give their fans something to celebrate.

Both teams have scored in the last seven league meetings between these sides and Newcastle have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight Premier League away matches, with that shutout coming at Bramall Lane against basement boys Sheffield United.

Champions League side Newcastle will be too strong for Bournemouth, just as Manchester City were when winning 6-1 last weekend, but the Cherries can take pride in the fact they scored against the treble winners and should net again on Saturday, even in another defeat.
