Vincent Kompany has enjoyed an excellent start to life at Bayern Munich with four wins from four

- Bayern have won all four matches they have played so far this season
- Dinamo Zagreb suffered their first defeat of the season last time out
- Jamal Musiala has scored two goals in three Bundesliga games
- Recommended bet:
Bayern to win and Jamal Musiala to score

The new-look Champions League gets underway on Tuesday and Bayern Munich — who last won the competition in 2020 — will be aiming to get off to a winning start when they host Dinamo Zagreb at the Allianz Arena.

Vincent Kompany’s side have been perfect so far this season with three wins from three in the Bundesliga as well as a routine DFB Pokal win, while Sergej Jakirovic’s Zagreb tasted defeat for the first time last time out and could struggle on their trip to Germany.

Team news

Vincent Kompany only has a handful of first-team players unavailable through injury for their first Champions League match of the campaign, with Tarek Buchmann (thigh), Hiroki Ito (foot) and Josip Stanisic (knee) all in the treatment room.

Leroy Sane returned to action for the Bavarians in their 6-1 win over Holstein Kiel at the weekend and he will be battling the likes of Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise for a starting spot.

Jakirovic has a fully-fit Dinamo squad to select from although he still may feel the need to freshen up his starting XI after their derby defeat to Hajduk Split last time out.

Croatia international Bruno Petkovic will likely lead the line, while Luka Stojkovic and Marko Rog will be hoping for starts after coming off the bench on Friday.

The stats

Bayern have scored 15 goals across their opening four matches in all competitions this season.

The Bavarians kept a clean sheet in their only home match so far — a 2-0 win over Freiburg.

Zagreb have won just two of their last 12 Champions League matches (excluding qualifying rounds).

The Citizens have not won away from home in the Champions League proper since the 1998-99 campaign

Bayern won their two group-stage meetings with Zagreb by an aggregate score of 7-0 back in 2015

Prediction

Bayern look a different beast under new manager Vincent Kompany after a thoroughly disappointing, trophy-less 2023-24 campaign and the German giants should be too strong for the Croatian champions.

While Zagreb have been impressive domestically, they largely struggle when playing away in Europe and could come undone against a Bayern side who last lost at home in this competition in the quarter-finals of the 2020-21 season.

The Bavarians have scored an average of three goals a game this season, with six separate players getting on the scoresheet, and one of these — Jamal Musiala — could be a decent pick to combine with a home win.

The attacking midfielder has two goals in the Bundesliga already this season, while he netted twice in this competition last season. After finding the net at the weekend, he will be full of confidence and should get chances to score on Tuesday.
