Barnet surrendered top spot in the Vanarama National League after being held to a goalless draw at Hartlepool.
York’s 6-2 win over Maidenhead meant a point on the road was not enough to prevent their rivals overtaking them on goal difference.
The Bees thought they had made the breakthrough late in the second half when Adebola Oluwo headed in Anthony Hartigan’s corner, but the goal was ruled out for a foul.
And with just three minutes remaining, Nikola Tavares’ point-blank header was kept out by goalkeeper Brad Young on the line to earn Hartlepool a point.
