The Netherlands will be targeting another deep World Cup run in Australia and New Zealand without their talisman Vivianne Miedema.

The Dutch were losing finalists in 2019 and are looking to bounce back from a disappointing Euro 2022, when they bowed out against France in the quarter-finals.

But the Oranje will be without superstar forward Miedema after the Arsenal striker failed to recover from an ACL injury in time.

Despite her absence, the Netherlands' squad is still strong enough to make an impact at this tournament.

Jill Roord just missed out on two trophies with Wolfsburg and will hope to go one better at the World Cup

Wolfsburg came close to winning two major titles this term but narrowly missed out on both a Frauen-Bundesliga title and a Champions League trophy.

Nevertheless, their campaign remains an impressive one and Jill Roord played a pivotal role in that.

The 26-year-old midfielder is extremely versatile, capable of playing in both a deeper position and a more advanced role, and chipped in with six league goals last season.

Ex-Arsenal star Roord will be important to the Netherlands in every phase of play.

One to watch: Lineth Beerensteyn

Lineth Beerensteyn will have to shoulder the Netherlands' goalscoring burden at the World Cup

The unfortunate absence of world-class poacher Miedema means that Lineth Beerensteyn will have to step up.

She will be forced to shoulder a greater portion of the goalscoring burden and will hope to add to her 24 international strikes.

Beerensteyn bagged 11 goals in 1,730 league minutes for Juventus this term, though her side were beaten to the title by Roma.

The boss: Andries Jonker

Andries Jonker, 60, took charge in August 2022 after the Oranje’s disappointing Euros campaign last summer.

Jonker boasts a wealth of experience at the highest level, having enjoyed spells at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg in various coaching roles.
