After brutal back-to-back tests at Muirfield Village and Pinehurst, the PGA Tour's elite can take the brakes off at the Travelers Championship, the eighth and final signature event of the 2024 calendar.

A 70-man field should tear up the 6,835-yard River Highlands layout at Cromwell, Connecticut, a welcome freewheel after the last couple of bruising weeks at the Memorial and US Open.

Cantlay’s Cromwell consistency is hard to ignore

Patrick Cantlay played the uninvited guest role at the Bryson & Rory show at the weekend but the big two just would not let him come and play.

Cantlay refused to go away as the big two battled it out for US Open glory at Pinehurst, never falling far behind but never really managing to get in on the act. He finished tied for third with four rounds of 65-71-70-70, just two back from DeChambeau.

If he was a model of consistency over the weekend in North Carolina then he has also been super-consistent at River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut where the Travelers Championship is staged.

The world No8, tied for fourth 12 months ago four shots behind Keegan Bradley's record 257, has had six top-15s at River Highlands on his last six visits.

It is almost two years since the super-accurate American won the last of his eight titles, a drought that should not last much longer — and may well be snapped this week.

Henley's Pinehurst farewell the perfect prep

Russell Henley will look to use the momentum from his fine final round at the US Open this week

No one signed off at Pinehurst any better than Russell Henley who is tipped to carry that good form to Connecticut.

Publicidad

Henley shared the best-of-the-day round of 67 on Sunday for a top-10 finish to ease up to a career-high 16th in the world rankings.

That's five top-10s this year and he also has five top-10s in his last six outings at the Travelers. Definitely one for the shortlist.

Harman to leave group rivals in shade

Open champion Brian Harman will soon be off to Troon to defend his crown but first can pocket yet more cash at River Highlands where he sits in the top 10 for career earnings.

The left-hander was second last year and boasts a scoring average in the Travelers of 67 over his last 22 rounds. Take him to boss a group with Sepp Straka and Sungjae Im.
