Premier League clubs have already spent nearly £2billion this summer ahead of Friday's deadline.

Moises Caicedo's £115m transfer to Chelsea is currently the most expensive move of the lot, with Declan Rice close behind following his £105m switch to Arsenal.

But while money has been spent left, right and centre by clubs in the English top flight, there has still been room for some bargain buys.

We take a look at five of the best transfers completed by Premier League clubs for under £20m.

Wataru Endo (Liverpool)

Despite struggling on his first Liverpool start at Newcastle last Sunday, Wataru Endo looks like a very sensible signing by the Reds.

The Japanese ace, 30, cost the Merseysiders a reported £16m — less than half of the £40m Al-Ittihad paid for Fabinho.

Endo was captain at former club Stuttgart and while he is a defensive midfielder by trade, the 50-cap international can also operate at centre-back if needed.

Endo's pragmatic skills should help bring the best out of fellow summer arrivals Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, as well as Thiago Alcantara when he returns from injury.

Ryan Giles (Luton)

Ryan Giles joined Luton from Wolves

Left-back Ryan Giles cost Premier League new boys Luton around £5m when he completed his move from Wolves in July.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Championship outfit Middlesbrough and was one of the standout performers in the second tier.

Giles registered 11 assists — a total bettered by only Jack Clarke and Viktor Gyokeres — as Boro qualified for the play-offs, forging a formidable partnership with the division's top scorer Chuba Akpom.

A similar level of output this season from the full-back could help Rob Edwards' Hatters avoid relegation.

Jefferson Lerma (Crystal Palace)

Jefferson Lerma was a regular at Bournemouth before joining Crystal Palace

Jefferson Lerma's switch from Bournemouth to Crystal Palace may represent the smartest free transfer of the summer.

The Colombian midfield enforcer enjoyed a successful five years with the Cherries, making 184 appearances across all competitions — with 100 of them coming in the Premier League.

He has also earned 35 international caps and at the age of 28, Lerma is entering his peak years.

If Cheick Doucoure remains at Selhurst Park beyond Friday's transfer deadline, Palace will have one of the division's best defensive midfield pairings.

James Trafford (Burnley)

James Trafford played a key role in England's European Under-21 Championship triumph

After helping England win the European Under-21 Championship, James Trafford opted to kick-start his Premier League career by swapping Manchester City for Burnley.

The 20-year-old stopper cost the Clarets around £19m and started the team's first two Premier League games of the campaign.

Trafford shone on loan at Bolton last season and was recently named in the PFA League One Team of the Year after keeping 22 clean sheets in 45 appearances.

Burnley have managed to acquire one of the hottest goalkeeping prospects in Europe for a fairly modest price.

Max Aarons (Bournemouth)

Max Aarons joined Bournemouth after seven years at Norwich

Bournemouth moved quickly and hijacked a deal for Max Aarons from under the nose of Leeds.

The right-back joined the South Coast club from Norwich in a transfer worth around £10m, a great price for a 23-year-old who already has 73 Premier League appearances under his belt.

Aarons was a regular for the England Under-21s too, playing 27 games and — like Trafford — helping the Young Lions win the Euros this summer.

The London native was also named the EFL Young Player of the Year in 2018-19 as Norwich lifted the Championship trophy.
