Al-Ettifaq failed with a late move to sign Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United on Thursday's Saudi Pro League transfer deadline.

Steven Gerrard's outfit made their move for the winger after his public falling out with United boss Erik ten Hag last weekend, according to the Daily Mail.

But their offer ultimately fell apart when Old Trafford chiefs insisted on including a £50million obligation to make the move permanent.

Al-Ettifaq were unable to afford that fee and were forced to withdraw their interest.

Sancho's future in Manchester is uncertain after Ten Hag claimed he had been left out of the squad to face Arsenal last Sunday because he had not trained well in the build-up to the match at the Emirates.

The England international hit back, saying that he had been made a "scapegoat" for his side's poor start to the season.

The former Borussia Dortmund flyer missed the majority of last season due to "physical and mental" issues, according to Ten Hag.

But now it appears his club were willing to let him go, even without the prospect of being able to replace him.
