Arsenal are one of the frontrunners to land highly-rated midfielder Martin Zubimendi this month.

Zubimendi, 24, has caught the eye for Real Sociedad this season and sources claim several top European clubs are plotting a move.

The defensive midfielder has helped Sociedad top their Champions League group and solidify their place in the LaLiga top six.

He was also part of the Basque team's Copa del Rey triumph in 2020 — their first major trophy since 1987 — having graduated from the club's academy.

Reports suggest there is a £52million release clause in the Spain international's contract, which could prompt the Gunners into action this month, instead of waiting until the summer window.

With Thomas Partey's poor injury record, head coach Mikel Arteta would benefit from a new defensive midfielder and a winter addition would free up Declan Rice to play in a less restricted role.

Zubimendi's contract at the Reale Arena runs until 2027 and any club looking to poach the fan favourite would likely have to activate his clause instead of trying to negotiate directly with Sociedad.
