Tottenham have been reinvigorated since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou.

The disappointment of last season has been consigned to history and a vibrant young team has captured the imagination in North London.

Spurs have won four and drawn one of their opening five Premier League games, scoring 13 goals in the process.

Ahead of today's huge North London derby at the Emirates Stadium, we take a look at how Postecoglou has transformed Tottenham.

Collective effort

The £86million sale of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last month led to concerns that Spurs would struggle without their talisman.

Instead, the team now appears to be functioning better as a collective, with goals spread between the likes of Heung-Min Son, James Maddison, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski.

Postecoglou has, without Kane, been able to take the focus away from individuals — and the result has been a fluid attacking quartet that is backed up by the defensive midfield duo of Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma.

Ahead of this gameweek, no team in the Premier League had created more big chances (13) or had more shots (101) than Spurs.

Fluidity

Postecoglou's ethos is an attacking one, with an emphasis on overloads in advanced areas of the pitch.

His full-backs — Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie — have been given licence to push forward regularly and occasionally drift inside, to provide an extra man in midfield.

The Tottenham boss discussed this philosophy after last month's victory at Bournemouth.

He said: "We do a lot of work on it. A lot of it is on instinct but we're trying to create a system, wherever I've been, that is as fluid as it can be.

"If there's space there, forget that you're a full-back, you're a footballer, get in that space. It's up to us to make sure that we're covering the gaps that are left.

"I think once players realise that they have the freedom to be able to do that then they don't second guess themselves. They know that it doesn't matter if they're a left full-back, if there's space there then they get into it."

Forward thinking

Few teams are as forward-thinking as Spurs under Postecoglou.

They ranked second in the Premier League for possessions won in the attacking third (36) prior to this weekend, with a focus on high pressing.

Only Arsenal (857) had completed more passes into the final third of the pitch than Tottenham (788).

Entertainers

Postecoglou's desire for attacking fluidity does mean Spurs can be vulnerable at the back in moments of transition.

They have let in five goals in five league games so far but have an expected goals conceded tally of 6.98.

The Australian tactician's principles will not change, though — and Tottenham fans, after a bleak 2022-23 campaign, have enjoyed watching arguably the most entertaining team in the division this term.

If Postecoglou can get the better of Mikel Arteta at the Emirates and inspire his side to a memorable win, the excitement surrounding Spurs will reach new heights.
