Stuttgart are the great entertainers of German football right now and will be looking to pick up their first points in the Champions League this season, having lost in a competitive match with Real Madrid, last time out.

Sparta Prague got off to a flying start with their win over Salzburg, but they come into this game off the back of their first defeat of the season, after losing 3-2 at home to Sigma Olomouc on Friday.

Team news

Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness will be without injured defenders Dan-Axel Zagadou and Leonidas Stergiou.

Ameen Al-Dakhill could return after illness, while Deniz Undav is likely to be brought back into the starting line-up, having come off the bench to score a 97th-minute equaliser in the 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg over the weekend.

Sparta Prague will be missing injured centre-backs Mathias Ross and Elias Cobbaut.

The stats

Lars Friis's Sparta Prague cruised to a 3-0 win in their Champions League opener despite limited possession

Stuttgart’s draw with Wolfsburg means that they are unbeaten in their last four Bundesliga games, which leaves them in eighth place in the German top flight.

Publicidad

Sparta Prague were unbeaten in their previous 28 games before suffering a shock home loss against Sigma Olomouc.

Stuttgart have only played twice at home this season, but have already scored eight times in those games.

Sparta had tried and failed to qualify for the Champions League group stage in their previous nine attempts, before overcoming Shamrock Rovers, FCSB and Malmo to make it this time round.

Prediction

Stuttgart should be confident of claiming a home win when they host Sparta Prague on Tuesday.

They are currently on a 16-match unbeaten run at the MHPArena which stretches back to October last year, winning 12 and drawing four times.

In their first Champions League game of the season, the Germans were handed the hardest possible task against the holders Real Madrid, but were level in the game until seven minutes from time, when they conceded two late goals.

Kaan Kairinen, Victor Olatunji and Qazim Laci scored the goals for Sparta Prague in their clinical victory against a Salzburg side that dominated the game in terms of possession.

That scoring potential suggests that the visitors could breach a leaky Stuttgart defence, but it is likely that the Bundesliga side will be too strong, given their excellent home form.
