West Brom to win

West Brom will hope to extend their lead at the top of the Championship table at the expense of an out-of-form Sheffield Wednesday when they visit Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts have so far failed to build on their opening weekend thrashing of Plymouth and need a result on Saturday if they are to escape the relegation zone.

Team news

Centre back Di’Shon Bernard is suspended for Sheffield Wednesday after being sent off against Luton last weekend, while Ben Hamer and Nathaniel Chalobah are still injury doubts, although Max Lowe and Anthony Musaba could return to the starting line-up on Saturday.

Publicidad

Grady Diangana could feature from the start for West Brom after returning from the bench last weekend, although Jayson Molumby was injured in that win over Plymouth and may join Daryl Dike on the sidelines.

League wins have been hard to come by for Danny Rohl's Sheffield Wednesday of late

The stats

West Brom have dropped just two points in the Championship this season and have conceded only two goals across their six league assignments.

The Baggies have also won three of their last four meetings with Sheffield Wednesday and have triumphed in all three of their away league games this term.

Sheffield Wednesday have lost four of their last five league fixtures.

Prediction

West Brom were 16/1 to top the Championship table before a ball was kicked this season but, after five wins and a draw from their opening six matches, their price has shortened to 9/1 with LiveScore Bet as they look to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Publicidad

They put in another astute performance to beat Plymouth 1-0 at The Hawthorns last weekend, leaving them with the best defensive record in the division after conceding just twice in six assignments.

This will come as bad news for Sheffield Wednesday fans, who have seen their side fail to build on a big opening-day win over Plymouth.

The Owls have scored only two league goals since that 4-0 thrashing of the Pilgrims, taking one point from a possible 15, a run that has landed them in the second-tier relegation zone.

Sheffield Wednesday ended a run of three straight defeats against West Brom when they won 3-0 here in April, but the tables have turned since then and a Baggies win looks the most likely outcome on Saturday, especially as the visitors have won on each of their opening three league away days.
