Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane has backed Liverpool to recover from an underwhelming campaign to date.

The Reds moved up to sixth in the Premier League table following last night’s 2-0 home win over Wolves but remain six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.

Jurgen Klopp’s outfit were knocked out of both domestic cup competitions at the fourth-round stage this season and now face elimination from the Champions League last 16 after losing 5-2 in their first leg against Real Madrid.

But Mane, who scooped six major trophies in as many years at Anfield before his summer switch to Bayern, insists the Merseysiders will soon rediscover their form.

The 30-year-old Senegalese star told Bild: "Liverpool will be back.

"I'm convinced they will overcome this situation.

"They had many injuries and tough tests, but Jurgen Klopp is definitely the right man.

"He will lead Liverpool back up, from this season — the players love him."

Ronaldo recommendation

Mane finished sixth in Monday’s The Best FIFA Football Awards vote, thanks to his performances in the Lions of Teranga’s triumphant Africa Cup of Nations campaign 12 months ago.

His current season has been blighted by a leg injury which ruled him out of the World Cup in Qatar.

Despite his time on the sidelines, the ex-FC Salzburg and Southampton marksman has netted 11 times in 24 outings for Bayern and revealed Cristiano Ronaldo endorsed his Bundesliga move.

Mane added: "I met Ronaldo in Mallorca before the season when my move was already decided.

"Ronaldo congratulated me on moving to Munich and said, 'A great club. That's a great step for you!'

"I'm sure we'll soon be seeing even more Premier League stars in the Bundesliga.

"Check out how tight it gets at the top. And the atmosphere in the stadiums — why should anyone say no to the Bundesliga?"

Bayern travel to Stuttgart on Saturday, tied on points with Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table ahead of Matchday 23.
