LiveScore Racing Preview: Ascot and Haydock, August 7, 2021
It is a typically busy Saturday afternoon of racing action in Britain.
Among the marquee meetings are Ascot (12.50pm-3.45pm), where the Shergar Cup card takes place, and Haydock (1.50pm-5.10pm), host to the Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes.
It should be a thrilling afternoon of equine entertainment and we have selected five to follow from across both cards.
2pm Ascot - Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Challenge (1m4f)
Having made a winning return at Epsom in April, GROUP ONE POWER has held his form since in four further starts, including under a penalty over this C&D (soft) in May.
The 4YO could still have more to offer and he'll be hoping Gold Cup-winning rider Joe Fanning can produce another front-running masterclass around Ascot now.
LiveScore Selection: Group One Power
2.25pm Haydock - MansionBet Bet 10 Get 20 Handicap (1m)
A slow pace would not have helped FANTASTIC FOX at Ascot a fortnight ago, with Silvestre De Sousa's mount adopting hold-up tactics and then forced to try and make up plenty of ground on the eventual one-two late on.
The Frankel colt still shaped with a good deal of promise and, from an unchanged mark of 94, Roger Varian's inmate could be a massive threat to his five rivals at Haydock.
LiveScore Selection: Fantastic Fox
2.35pm Ascot - Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Mile (1m)
Shergar Cup Day at Ascot is one on which Hayley Turner often excels and among her book of rides is BEAR FORCE ONE for trainer Roger Teal.
Last week's Doncaster run was a first attempt at 1m2f and probably just stretched his stamina, while it was also a first outing in 104 days.
He is just 2lb clear of his last win-mark and this trip around Ascot could be perfect with that run banked and a good ally in the saddle now.
LiveScore Selection: Bear Force One
3.10pm Ascot - Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Classic (1m4f)
Andrew Balding's team are in cracking form and STAR CALIBER was unfortunate here 15 days when butting heads with a strong stay over two miles in Speedo Boy.
The Golden Horn colt made an otherwise fine bid from the front and he was four lengths clear of the remainder at the line as he finished second.
James Doyle gets the leg up here and the drop in trip is not a worry for a lightly-raced colt with more to give.
LiveScore Selection: Star Caliber
4.10pm Haydock - MansionBet Rose Of Lancaster Stakes (Group 3, 1m2½f)
Godolphin's REAL WORLD was promising on the all-weather in Dubai early this year and is now 2-2 on turf since returning to Britain.
He won the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot in fine style in June and added a Listed Newbury win last month upped to a mile-and-a-quarter.
He was briefly outpaced there but showed an excellent attitude to battle back and claim promising 3YO Derab late on, despite conceding plenty of weight to his younger rival.
On that evidence, there is more in the locker and Saeed bin Suroor's Dark Angel colt can complete his hat-trick.
LiveScore Selection: Real World
