Tie or Brentford Double Chance

Manchester United endured a few miserable weeks before the international break and will hope to hit the ground running against Brentford to start bridging the gap to the top six.

Brentford's away record is not the best but they will be well aware of the pressure on Erik ten Hag and will be keen to ramp it up further.

Team news

Mason Mount is back in full training and available though Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Rasmus Hojlund are doubts.

United have also got a stack of defensive absentees with Luke Shaw, Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro and Tyrrell Malacia sidelined.

Rico Henry, who is yet to play this season, and Mathias Jensen are fit and could be involved.

Gustavo Nunes and Yoane Wissa are definitely out.

The stats

Thomas Frank's Brentford have been making fast starts in the league of late

United are without a win in five matches and have won just one of their last six in the Premier League.

They have failed to score in their last three league games — they have not gone four league games without a goal since 1989. Only Southampton have scored fewer goals.

Publicidad

Brentford have scored in the second minute or earlier in each of their last four league matches.

Bryan Mbeumo has scored six in seven appearances for the Bees and found the net in each of his last three.

Prediction

This is a particular favourite fixture for United who have beaten Brentford on the London side's last five visits to Old Trafford.

This Saturday, however, promises to be different and certainly has the makings of another uncomfortable outing for Ten Hag's troops.

The Dutchman is still in charge despite a five-game winless streak which has highlighted United's wastefulness in front of goal and lack of confidence.

They are averaging almost two shots per game more than Brentford yet have scored eight goals less.

We have not seen a single goal yet from the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Mount or Hojlund and Mbeumo has scored more goals on his own than United have as a group.

Brentford have lost all three away games this season yet those defeats have been at Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham. All three teams are better than United and Pep Guardiola, in particular, was gushing about Thomas Frank's side.

Indeed, the Bees took leads at both the Etihad and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but could not hold on, but they look good enough to end their barren road spell at lesser opponents than that trio.
