Riyad Mahrez paid tribute to his Manchester City colleagues after his move to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ahli was confirmed.

The winger departs after five seasons at the Etihad, during which he won four Premier League titles and most recently the Champions League.

Mahrez told City's website: "To play for Manchester City has been an honour and privilege.

"I came to City to win trophies and enjoy my football and I achieved all that and so much more.

"I have had five unforgettable years with this football club, working with unbelievable players, fantastic supporters and the best manager in the world.

"I've made a lifetime of wonderful memories and the manner of our Premier League title wins and the battles we've had with Liverpool and, last year, Arsenal, underlined our collective desire and mentality to be the best.

"Manchester City will forever be a huge and happy part of my life."

The 32-year-old made 236 appearances for Pep Guardiola's side, notching 78 goals, and leaves as the seventh-highest scorer in the club's history.

The former Leicester creator's stint in England will arguably be remembered best for his starring role in the Foxes' stunning 2015-16 title-winning victory, when he won the PFA Players' Player of the Year award.

He departs with only 10 men having won more Premier League titles in the history of the competition.

City's director of football Txiki Begiristain was also full of praise for the Algerian's efforts during his time in Manchester.

He said: "Riyad has been a major factor in our amazing successes over the past five years and his contribution will not be forgotten. He is a wonderful footballer to watch and leaves us with so many great memories.

"There are few wingers that possess his levels of skill and technique in world football and he will be missed but everyone will wish him all the best as he begins a new chapter in his career."

Al-Ahli make Mahrez their third signing from Europe this summer, having previously added ex-Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and former Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino to their ranks.
