It says plenty about England's strength in depth that you can pick an impressive side from the players still without a first senior cap.

After maiden call-ups for Ezri Konsa, Rico Lewis and Cole Palmer this week, we have selected an XI of current players yet to feature for the Three Lions.

Check out our line-up below.

Goalkeeper: Jason Steele

Burnley stopper James Trafford is more likely to become England's No1 but Jason Steele is currently playing to a higher level.

The Brighton keeper has made 10 appearances this season and Roberto De Zerbi trusts him to fit their intricate playing style.

Right-back: Aaron Wan-Bissaka

In a different era, Aaron Wan-Bissaka could have won caps galore.

Instead, blocked by a raft of other right-backs, he may start playing international football for DR Congo.

Centre-back: Ezri Konsa

Konsa may not be eligible for this side for long after receiving his first call-up.

Publicidad

The defender, 26, has performed consistently for Aston Villa for more than four years and could well become a fixture in Gareth Southgate's thinking.

Centre-back: Max Kilman

Max Kilman is the club captain at Wolves

Max Kilman has previously been namechecked by Southgate and is another who is unlikely to remain uncapped forever.

The 26-year-old is left-footed — a valuable quality — and is club captain at Wolves.

Left-back: Harry Toffolo

Real-life injuries to Dan Burn and Rico Henry rule them out of this make-believe team, so Harry Toffolo steps up to fill the problem position.

Southgate's latest squad features no natural left-back and Toffolo's impressive form for Nottingham Forest means he is not far away.

Centre midfield: Rico Lewis

Pep Guardiola cannot hide his excitement at Lewis' potential and Southgate agrees, drafting him into his squad for the upcoming games.

The 18-year-old can operate at full-back or in midfield and has played 90 minutes in all of Manchester City's last three Champions League matches.

Rico Lewis has been called up to the England squad for the first time

Centre midfield: Curtis Jones

Curtis Jones starred in England's Under-21 European Championship success during the summer and should not be capless for long.

Liverpool have won six of the seven matches Jones has started this season and he must be a contender to fill the hole in the Three Lions' midfield.

Right wing: Cole Palmer

Another who will soon be ruled out of contention for this side, Palmer is having quite a time of it.

His decision to leave Manchester City for Chelsea is paying off spectacularly, with a run of three goals and four assists in six matches followed by a first senior international call-up.

Centre attacking midfield: Morgan Gibbs-White

Morgan Gibbs-White starred for the England Under-21s in the summer

Morgan Gibbs-White is struggling to make the same impact at Nottingham Forest as last season but is another international-in-waiting.

He also starred in the U-21 summer success and would reportedly have been selected by Southgate then were it not for that tournament.

Left wing: Anthony Gordon

Anthony Gordon's form has caught perhaps even his biggest supporters off guard.

The forward has four goals and two assists this season but those numbers do little justice to his vast improvement under Eddie Howe at Newcastle.

Striker: Cameron Archer

Dominic Solanke's solitary England cap against Brazil in November 2017 rules him out, leaving few genuine options up top.

Luton's Carlton Morris is edged out by Cameron Archer, who has scored six times in 11 England U-21 appearances and is a natural in front of goal.
