Smith edging towards York for Alcohol Free 

Owner Jeff Smith admits Alcohol Free is far from certain to race in Juddmonte International at York next week.

The star filly has enjoyed a wonderful few months, taking two Group One sprint crowns. 

She landed the Coronation Stakes and Royal Ascot before beating pre-race favourite Poetic Flare in the Qatar Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. 

A run in the Ebor Festival's showpiece would set up a tasty clash with Coral-Eclipse winner St Mark's Basilica. 

But an alternative plan would be the Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock. 

Smith said: "I think it's probable we'll go to York. 

"We'll confirm her at the six-day stage on Thursday, discuss it and then make a decision."

Ebro River set for step up 

Trainer Hugo Palmer may step Ebro River up to seven furlongs but admits running a mile might come too soon. 

The two-year won impressively at Curragh on Sunday winning the Phoenix Stakes. It was his third win of 2021 following a novice triumph at Doncaster and a Listed success at Sandown. 

Progress is on the agenda for the colt but Palmer has poured cold water on the suggestion he could run in next years' Qipco 2,000 Guineas Stakes. 

Palmer said: "The way he finished off his race suggests he could get seven furlongs later this year but he has options at six before then.

"I see Ebro River was cut to fourth favourite for the 2,000 Guineas after his win but I'm not sure he'll get the trip." 

Decisions to make for Go Bears Go

Go Bears Go could contest either the Prix Morny or the Gimcrack Stakes following a narrow defeat to Ebro River on Sunday. 

Successful on his debut at Ascot in May, the two-year-old was then beaten by a neck in the Group Two Norfolk Stakes at the royal meeting. 

A victory at the Curragh followed before the Kodi Bear colt had to contend with third on Sunday in his Group One debut. 

Looking ahead, trainer Dave Loughnane has revealed he will be a Group One runner from now on and has targeted two races. 

Loughnane said: "He's a Group One horse, whether he won yesterday or not. Yesterday wasn't our day but I have no doubt in my mind we'll be winning a Group One very soon with him.

"We have a couple of options. There's the Prix Morny at Deauville in a couple of weeks' time, and the Gimcrack in York is also an option."

Ward pondering Campanelle future 

Trainer Wesley Ward admits he needs to think about what the future holds for Campanelle after a bitterly disappointing last in Deauville. 

It was the three-year-old daughter of Kodiac's first race since success at Royal Ascot in the Group One Commonwealth Cup and she was expected to perform strongly. 

But just before the race started, she reared up when the gates opened, hitting jockey Frankie Dettori in the face — an incident  he admitted left him "a bit dazed". 

That set the tone as she finished last, 13 lengths adrift of the winner Marianafoot. 

Ward said: "When you're beaten fair and square it's kind of easy to take but it's a little tough when things worked out like they did. 

"Frankie obviously bumped his head and said it left him half-dazed for the first part of the race. He did well to stay on and at least he is OK and the filly seems fine. 

"She came out of it well, so we'll get with the owners and make a new plan and see what we're going to do."
