Loftus-Cheek has a fan in Dave

Cesar Azpilicueta is delighted to see Ruben Loftus-Cheek thriving at Chelsea.

Despite injuries blighting his time at Stamford Bridge, Loftus-Cheek has been a familiar face in Thomas Tuchel’s squad this season.

He scored the opening goal in Sunday's 2-0 win over Crystal Palace as the Blues booked an FA Cup final showdown with Liverpool.

And skipper Azpilicueta, affectionately known as Dave by the Chelsea faithful, could not be happier for the versatile midfielder.

He said: "You can see the improvement he has made. He has played in different positions and always delivered, always been open and always been trying his best for the team.

"He had a couple of injuries. Every time he was at his best moment when he had an injury.

"So he has been working a lot on his fitness, on the way he recovers and prepares for games, and I think we are seeing the results.

"He’s still only 26. I’ve known Ruben since he was 17 and I’m very happy because he’s so strong physically now.

"He scored a nice goal on Sunday and I'm so happy because he deserves all the performances he’s been producing."

Trev will be back

Trevoh Chalobah is pushing to be included more as Chelsea look to finish the season strongly

Meanwhile, Tuchel has confirmed Trevoh Chalobah is pushing hard for more minutes after bouncing back from a dip in form.

Having been strongly linked with a loan move last summer, Chalobah, 22, has been an unexpected breakthrough star for the Blues this term.

He made his last start in the 1-0 home win over Newcastle on March 13 and Tuchel is ready to hand him more playing time once again.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's clash with Arsenal, the German said: "Trevoh played a very good season so far.

"He had a little dip of form some weeks ago but he had good weeks of training now. We had a talk but I haven't been able to show him with minutes.

"We have Thiago [Silva] in shape, Andreas [Christensen] playing, Reece [James] in these positions. He is training excellently and this is what we demand of him.

"He will see it with minutes in the next matches."

Warnock backs Liverpool

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock believes his old club will come out on top against arch-rivals Manchester United tonight.

Warnock, 40, said: "Liverpool are the form team. United are all over the place at the moment.

"They can't string results together and can't put any performances together but they'll always make it tough.

"I don't see anything but a Liverpool victory, just because of the way they have been playing of late."

Pat on the back

Wilfried Zaha and Patrick Vieira failed to get the better of Chelsea at Wembley

Patrick Vieira has urged Crystal Palace to bounce back from their FA Cup heartache by beating Newcastle tomorrow night.

Palace travel to St James' Park on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the semi-finals at Wembley.

And Vieira wants to ensure the season does not peter out as the Londoners bid to finish as high up the Premier League table as possible.

He said: "It’s always difficult to enjoy it when you didn’t win the game.

"Putting that result on the side, it was a really good day for the club. The fans and players all enjoyed the day and the moment.

"The frustration is there but we tried our best. We fought hard and I was proud of the team’s performance.

"There is a massive disappointment but we don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves.

"We have to find the strength and motivation to go again. I expect an answer from the players and I will put a lot of focus on that."

More VAR

VAR will be introduced in the Scottish Premiership from the middle of next season.

Despite the system only being implemented in the top flight, all 42 Scottish Professional Football League clubs voted on the proposal earlier today, with 41 in favour.

The technology will be implemented after the World Cup in Qatar this winter, with Premiership clubs covering the £1.2million per season cost on a sliding scale.

On Targett

Matt Targett has impressed since joining Newcastle on loan

Eddie Howe has hinted Newcastle could look to make Matt Targett's loan switch from Aston Villa permanent.

Targett, 26, has been a regular in Howe's side since moving to St James' Park during the January transfer window.

And the Toon boss is clearly pleased with the left-back's contribution. Talking ahead of tomorrow's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, he said: "Matt's done very well.

"There are still games to play and opinions to be fully formed. But he has fitted well into the team and we're very pleased with him."
