Laura Blindkilde Brown says Manchester City are "buzzing" after moving level on points with Women's Super League champions Chelsea.

Gareth Taylor's side beat the Blues 1-0 at Kingsmeadow on Friday evening courtesy of a 14th-minute strike from WSL top scorer Khadija Shaw.

City have won their last 11 games across all competitions and Blindkilde Brown knows they are in a good place heading into the business end of the season.

The midfielder, 20, told LiveScore: "Everyone was just so happy after the Chelsea game.

"We beat Arsenal in the FA Cup last weekend as well so everyone is just buzzing — and it's great to be level on points with Chelsea.

"I'd say it's the biggest result in our season so far.

"We now feel we've got a great chance to win the league. We're competing with — and beating — the top teams.

"The title race is so exciting for us. We know we've got serious competition and have to deal with that by continuing to raise our standards.

"It's also so exciting for the WSL as a whole, because more fans will come to watch."

Talent at both ends

Alex Greenwood was named Player of the Match in Manchester City's win at Chelsea

City's victory in the capital saw them become the first team to stop Chelsea scoring in the WSL this season.

Emma Hayes' side had netted 41 times in their first 13 matches but could not breach the Citizens.

That defensive solidity comes as no surprise to Blindkilde Brown, who has been impressed by her team-mates since arriving from Aston Villa last month.

She said: "Since joining I've seen the quality we have in defence.

"They're just so good and it's so hard to get past them, even in training.

"They showed their quality against a talented Chelsea attack."

Blindkilde Brown, who was twice named Villa's Player of the Year, also talked up the quality of match-winner Shaw.

The Jamaica international, 27, bagged her 14th league goal of the season to down Chelsea.

Khadjia Shaw scored 20 goals in 22 WSL games last season

Blindkilde Brown added: "Khadija's just got really high standards in training. She's always demanding more and she's such a good finisher.

"She knows where the goal is and is at the peak of her powers right now, proven by the fact she's the WSL's top scorer.

"It's a dream for me as an attacking midfielder to play with her. I know if I pass her the ball she'll more than likely score!"
