Bolton boss Ian Evatt was sent-off after the final whistle as Kyle Dempsey’s goal and assist saw Bolton recover from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw with struggling Shrewsbury.

Evatt received his red card from referee Declan Bourne in the centre circle after a fractious end to an entertaining draw.

Town, who despite a point still equalled their worst ever start to a Football League season after 10 games, received an unexpected double boost in the first half.

On-loan Aston Villa defender Josh Feeney fired Paul Hurst’s team into a 20th-minute lead with a first senior goal.

Eight minutes later midfielder Jordan Shipley reprised his spectacular goal from last season’s corresponding fixture, blasting a brilliant 25-yard shot beyond Luke Southwood.

Wanderers were shell-shocked having scored 11 times to win their previous three league outings.

But they responded after the restart as Dempsey collected Dion Charles’ pass before shooting left-footed beyond Toby Savin.

Wanderers stayed on the attack and after 61 minutes Dempsey crossed for Hungarian Szabolcs Schon to net his first goal for the club.

But Bolton’s bid for a comeback victory eventually faltered, with substitute Aaron Collins denied a stoppage-time winner by Savin’s superb save.
