Ronaldo record

Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of becoming the first man to make 200 international appearances.

Ronaldo, 38, can make history if he lines up against Iceland tonight and he will be keen to add to the 122 goals he has for his country.

On the achievement, he said: "For me it is an extremely important milestone, it means a lot.

"Being the 200th game, I will be the first in history to do so, I'm very proud, for this is something I never thought I could reach, but I have to keep going. I have much more to do.

Publicidad

"I say it sincerely, I don't follow the records, they follow me.

"I'm happy, it's also my motivation to continue playing at the highest level in the national team.

"It was something I never thought I would achieve. And I'm continuing to set records."

Son is staying

Heung-Min Son failed to hit his peak for Tottenham in 2022-23

South Korea captain Heung-Min Son has dismissed reports of him leaving Tottenham to join the Saudi Pro League this summer.

Publicidad

Son, 30, still has two years left on his contract in North London and it is believed that the alleged £50million bid from Al-Ittihad falls significantly short of Daniel Levy's valuation of the forward.

On top of this, Son has insisted that he would like to remain in the Premier League and impress new head coach Ange Postecoglou.

He said: "I have many things to do in the Premier League.

"Money doesn't matter to me now, and the pride of playing football, to play in my favourite league is important.

"I want to play more for Tottenham in the Premier League. I'll prepare well when I'm back to Spurs."

Euro 2024 mascot

UEFA have revealed the mascot for Euro 2024

UEFA have unveiled a new mascot for Euro 2024 with the aim of getting children to be more active.

The mascot pays homage to a popular children's teddy bear toy in Germany — where the tournament will take place — and made its first official appearance at a school in Gelsenkirchen.

It will be introduced to the crowd ahead of Germany's friendly against Colombia tonight before making several more cameos ahead of the games in 2024.

In addition to supporting initiatives and partnerships, the mascot aims to inspire children across Europe to get active while encouraging them to develop a love of football and its values.

On the campaign, tournament director Philipp Lahm said: "Football sparks an incredible power that promotes teamwork, perseverance and a healthy, active lifestyle, all while having fun.

"As a parent, I know how important it is to stimulate children's imagination. With the launch of our tournament mascot, we hope to create a fun and likeable character that will inspire them to enjoy playing football."

Takeover torment

Gary Neville has pointed criticism towards the Glazer family

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has once again slammed Old Trafford chiefs over their stalling of a potential sale.

The Glazers have been looking to end their ownership of the Premier League giants but are holding out for the right price, much to the anger of fans and former players.

Neville, 48, has been very vocal in his protests against the Americans and has criticised the ongoing saga.

He said: "Embarrassing, but it's what they have done.

"They drag everything out, always in their best interests and not in the best interests of the football club.

"I thought it would be dealt with quite quickly after the end of the season. But there is no news.

"The idea of Manchester United fans not being updated by the owners on an ownership sale is not good enough but fitting with the Glazers' ownership and how they have operated for 20 years now."

Stevie says no to Saudi

Steven Gerrard is looking for his next managerial post

Former Aston Villa and Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has turned down the opportunity to manage in Saudi Arabia.

The 43-year-old has been out of work since being sacked by the Villans last October and was pictured in Saudi Arabia earlier this month, reportedly made an offer by Al-Ettifaq.

On the latest developments, he said: "I was invited over there to look at a potential offer, which I did.

"I have been analysing that over the last couple of days. But, as we stand right now, I won't be taking that offer up."

Gerrard only managed to steer Villa to 13 wins from 40 games during his 11 months in charge, after enjoying a successful spell in Scotland.

Chambers departs

Kelly Chambers is leaving Reading this summer

Reading manager Kelly Chambers is set to depart the club this summer.

Having been at the helm since 2012, Chambers took the Royals to the second division before guiding them into the Women's Super League in 2015.

But the club have confirmed that following their relegation and switch to part-time status, she would like to pursue new opportunities.

Their statement said: "Chambers has been a pioneer at the pinnacle of women's sport, championing women’s football at every turn and standing strong at the very heart of its rapid growth.

"Locking horns with the elite for nearly a decade, Reading have been punching well above their weight under Chambers.

Publicidad

"And yet, in 2017-18, Chambers’ Royals finished fourth in the top tier — behind only Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City and ahead of both Everton and Liverpool in losing just four games all season.

"Everyone would like to thank Kelly for her remarkable contribution to Reading and wish her the very best of luck in her future career."
