Food for thought

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has warned critics of Erling Haaland to watch their words after the Norwegian hitman struck the winner against Brentford.

The champions closed the gap to league leaders Liverpool with the 1-0 victory and Guardiola was delighted the biggest chance of the match fell to his star striker.

He said: "With top scorers or strikers who score a lot of goals, don't criticise because he will shut your mouth, that's for sure.

"If someone doubts Erling [Haaland] then he will do his job. He's an incredible player.

"He was out with injury for two months and is not in his best shape.

"If I had to choose one [player], I choose this one. In this type of game like Brentford, you need Erling."

Movement at Millwall

Neil Harris has left Cambridge to return to Millwall

Championship side Millwall have reappointed Neil Harris as their manager after sacking Joe Edwards.

Publicidad

Harris, 46, only took over at League Two Cambridge in December but will now return for his second spell at the Den.

The Lions have suffered seven defeats in their last eight matches, leaving them just one point clear of the drop zone.

A statement from chairman James Berylson said: "I'd like to start by thanking Neil for taking on this challenge, which is one I know he is very excited and enthusiastic about,"

"Neil knows this club as well as anybody and understands exactly what it takes to be successful here.

"And that says a lot about their affection for Millwall and their fierce drive and determination to help improve performances and results."

Frenkie de Jong has hit back at the media

Frenkie de Jong has slammed reports linking him with a move away from Barcelona due to his high salary this summer.

The Dutch midfielder has been the subject of several transfer rumours over the last few years and Manchester United has been sounded out as a potential destination on more than one occasion.

But De Jong, 26, has hit back at the media, saying: "Recently I am a little angry with what the press write in general.

"A lot of stuff that is not true has come out. I can't understand it, people reporting lies. It's irritating me a little.

"For example, [the media] speak a lot about my contract, my salary etc, it's a lot of smoke, a lot of lies, that I'm earning €40million or whatever.

"I am really happy at Barca, I have always said it. This is the club of my dreams, I hope I can play here for many more years."

Fox in the box

Harry Winks has been leading Leicester's charge back to the Premier League

Leicester midfielder Harry Winks is enjoying getting his career back on track after leaving Tottenham last summer.

The England international was sent on loan to Sampdoria in 2022-23 but could not prevent the Serie A side from being relegated before moving permanently to the Foxes.

Winks, 28, said: "I've never lost confidence in myself.

"This year has been a good platform for me to go out and show what my strengths are, what I can bring to the team and to try and get a run of games where I can play regularly and show it.

"Right now the most important thing for me is Leicester and getting the club into the Premier League, winning as many games as possible and, personally, playing well.

"The last two or three years of my time at Spurs were tough but before that it was amazing and I loved every minute."

Happy Hatter

Tom Lockyer is recovering well from a cardiac arrest

Luton captain Tom Lockyer has revealed an implantable cardioverter defibrillator is aiding his recovery following a cardiac arrest in a game against Bournemouth last December.

Lockyer, 29, was also hospitalised after collapsing in the 2023 Championship play-off final and admits his future as a professional player is out of his hands.

The Welsh defender said: "I call it my new little superpower really because after something like this happens and you make a recovery you have it in there just in case.

"It's just in my side here. It just sits there. The battery lasts for about eight years.

"To start with it was very sore and I still can't sleep on my left side but I never slept on my left side.

"You get a little iPad and it plugs into a wall and every night, you click a button on that and it syncs up to your defib and reports back to the hospital and shows your heartbeat throughout the whole day."
