Fornals finally completes exit

Pablo Fornals has finally completed his move to Real Betis from West Ham.

The Spaniard was due to seal a return to LaLiga before yesterday's 11pm deadline but a computer error threw the move into doubt.

As the key steps were taken prior to the window slamming shut, however, the midfielder's permanent departure from East London has now been confirmed.

A statement from the Irons said: "Everyone at West Ham would like to thank Pablo for everything he has given to the club during his time in claret and blue, and wish him and his family all the best for the future."

Fornals, 27, racked up 203 appearances for the Hammers since arriving from Villarreal in 2019 and helped them win the Europa Conference League last term.

The six-cap international scored 23 goals for the Hammers but saw his playing time reduced this term, making just four Premier League starts.

He will now reunite with Manuel Pellegrini in Andalusia, the manager who brought him to West Ham in 2019.

Benrahma joins Lyon

Said Benrahma completed his move to Lyon after the deadline

Lyon have secured the signing of Said Benrahma on loan from West Ham.

The forward and team-mate Pablo Fornals were both due to leave on deadline day but the Hammers claimed computer errors meant the paperwork was not filed.

Lyon indicated they had submitted all the relevant documents and appealed to FIFA to allow the move to go through.

A strongly-worded statement said: "Olympique Lyonnais deeply regrets this situation and this decision, demonstrating a profound lack of respect on the part of West Ham towards the institution and the player.

"The club reserves the right to undertake all appropriate procedures necessary to validate the transaction at a later date, and to hold West Ham responsible if necessary."

And football's governing body have since ratified the switch in a boost to the League 1 outfit.

Go gently

Kalvin Phillips endured a debut to forget

David Moyes says West Ham will "go gently" with new signing Kalvin Phillips after the debutant's costly error in their 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.

The England midfielder's loan move from Manchester City was one of the most high-profile switches of the January transfer window.

But just three minutes into his first start last night, the 28-year-old inadvertently set up Dominic Solanke to open the scoring before being rescued in the second half by James Ward-Prowse's penalty.

Irons boss Moyes said: "It's not a goal we concede too often and it gave them a leg up. Then we had to perform and we weren't at a level to do that. It wasn't as good as it should have been.

"Kalvin's fine, he got best part of 70 minutes in. I said before we might have to go a bit gently with him.

"I thought as the game went on he was starting to get better, but he was a bit slow at the start and in getting into the way we play.

"It looked as if we had had 10 days off tonight, like we'd had a holiday, the players looked leggy."

New face

Enes Unal sealed a move to Bournemouth on deadline day

Andoni Iraola says deadline-day signing Enes Unal can add a new dimension to Bournemouth's attack.

The Turkish forward, 26, sealed a move to the Cherries from Getafe yesterday for an undisclosed fee after scoring 36 goals in 109 games for the LaLiga outfit.

Speaking after his side's 1-1 draw with West Ham, the Cherries boss told the club's official site: "He's a player that I know well. I've played against him a lot in LaLiga.

"He has been successful there, he has been scoring goals.

"And I think he's someone who can give us something different up front. His way of playing is very adaptable to the Premier League.

"He has had a small experience in England [at Manchester City] that I think will make the transition easier because he speaks the language.

"He will be ready to help us from day one. He wants to come to the Premier League and show everyone his level."
