There were a few scores I didn't see coming in the latest round of Premier League action — and some unbelievable performances too.

Read on to see my five stars of Matchday 7.

Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)

It's easy to pick someone out when they score a hat-trick but Ollie Watkins is a striker that always gives defenders an uncomfortable afternoon.

He tore Brighton apart here and what I liked was when he missed a chance for a fourth and you saw him banging the floor — that is the sign of a hungry striker who is never satisfied.

Champions League clubs will be keeping a close eye on him but he seems happy at Aston Villa and the club has every chance of pushing into the top four in the years ahead.

Carlton Morris (Luton)

Carlton Morris was on the scoresheet as Luton got their first Premier League win at Everton and I've been really impressed with the No9's impact so far this season.

Publicidad

If the Hatters are to stay up this season, Morris needs to have the season of his life and even still, he can't shoulder that whole goalscoring burden — his team-mates need to muck in.

But like Watkins, he has an all-round impact on the game. He's important defensively, technically sound and I really like what I've seen from him so far.

Craig Dawson (Wolves)

To be honest, I could've picked any of the Wolves backline here. It was a hugely disciplined performance that helped them stun Manchester City.

Publicidad

Craig Dawson was tasked with man-marking Erling Haaland and what a great job he did, following the Norwegian all over the pitch even if it meant leaving the odd gap here and there.

The former West Ham man also made an amazing clearance early on which seemed to fill him with the confidence to put on such an impressive performance.

Joachim Andersen (Crystal Palace)

Roy Hodgson has an unbelievable record at Old Trafford and I kind of saw Crystal Palace's win there coming. He's so good at setting a team up to keep things tight when he needs to.

Joachim Andersen showed unbelievable technique for the winning goal too, he's a classy defender on the ball and you know he has that in the locker.

Him and Marc Guehi, who was also fantastic on Saturday, have got to be one of the most consistent and impressive centre-back pairings in the Premier League.

Conor Gallagher (Chelsea)

Conor Gallagher put in an all-action performance for Chelsea against Fulham

Cheslea got a morale-boosting win at Fulham and stand-in skipper Conor Gallagher put in a real captain's performance.

Publicidad

Conor is someone I've worked with at England and though he's not a shouter and screamer, he leads by example with his attitude, application and intensity levels.

It was great to see him take his chance and given the Blues showed more synergy than they have for a long time last night, Mauricio Pochettino may well persist with that line-up going forward.
