We now know the identity of the last 16 teams at this summer’s European Championship after a dramatic conclusion to the group stages.

Germany struck late to snatch second place in Group F, meaning Portugal went through as one of the best third-placed sides along with winners France.

For the first time since the tournament kicked off on June 11, there’s no live action to enjoy today — but the transfer rumour mill never stops.

So we’ve rounded up the best rumours involving players from the remaining nations.

Haaland alternative

Spain forward Gerard Moreno is Chelsea’s alternative to Erling Haaland, if they fail to sign the Borussia Dortmund sensation this summer.

Moreno hit 23 goals in LaLiga for Villarreal last term — only Barcelona star Lionel Messi managed more.

As a result, Chelsea have made the 29-year-old striker their backup option if they fail to get a deal for Haaland done.

Isak chase intensifies

Real Madrid have joined the race for Sweden forward Alexander Isak.

The 21-year-old has impressed at the European Championship and was linked with Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal earlier in the week.

However, reports in Spain claim Los Blancos are taking a closer look at Isak, who netted 17 times in LaLiga for Real Sociedad last season.

Sule extension

Niklas Sule had been linked with Chelsea earlier in the season but now looks set to stay with Bayern

Germany centre-back Niklas Sule looks set to extend his contract with Bayern Munich — despite interest from Chelsea.

Sule, 25, had been linked with the Blues earlier in the season.

But, according to reports in Germany, the powerful defender will now re-commit himself to Bayern who have offered him an additional 12 months.

Sule had been out of contract in the summer of 2022 and has fallen down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena this season.

Dalot departure

Leaving Old Trafford could be Portugal defender Diego Dalot — but only if Manchester United lower their asking price.

Dalot, 22, spent last season on loan at AC Milan after falling out of favour at United, making 33 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A giants.

Milan now want to make the full-back’s stay permanent, but the Red Devils have set the asking price too high.

Dalot came off the bench in Portugal’s dramatic 2-2 draw with France on Wednesday to make his full debut for the Selecao.

Torres talk

Pau Torres' defensive action areas map for the 2020-21 LaLiga season with Villarreal

Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres is another member of the Spain squad being linked with a Premier League move this summer.

Publicidad

Manchester United are keen on the 24-year-old stopper who enjoyed a fine season as the Yellow Submarine lifted the Europa League — toppling the Red Devils in the final.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to want another centre-back this summer to partner Harry Maguire and sees Torres, who has 11 Spain caps, as the ideal option.

The left-footer was third in LaLiga for progressive carrying distance last season (7,210m).
