Argentina to win in normal time

Argentina are aiming for a record-breaking 16th title when they face Colombia in the 2024 Copa America final at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, Florida in the early hours of Monday morning.

Lionel Scaloni’s side won the 2021 Copa America and the 2022 World Cup and are hoping to secure a third major title in just three years.

However, they will be anticipating a stern challenge from Colombia, who approach the weekend on a 28-game unbeaten run.

Colombia have won 12 of their last 13 matches with the exception being a 1-1 draw against Brazil in the Copa America group stage.

However, they have triumphed at the Copa America on just one occasion, back in 2001 and have never won the tournament on foreign soil.

Team news

Suspended defender Daniel Munoz will be a big miss for Colombia

Julian Alvarez played up front with Lionel Messi in Argentina’s 2-0 semi-final success over Canada and both got on the scoresheet.

They appear likely to keep their places at the expense of Lautaro Martinez, who is the tournament’s top scorer with four goals.

Colombia right-back Daniel Munoz serves a one-match ban after his red card against Uruguay, while midfielder Richard Rios came off injured in the same game and could be replaced by Mateus Uribe.

The stats

Argentina have won 17 of their last 19 fixtures.

Publicidad

The Albiceleste have won nine of their last 25 matches by a 2-0 scoreline.

Argentina have lost only one of their last 25 fixtures, while less than three goals has landed in all of their last nine competitive matches.

Colombia are unbeaten in their last 28 matches and have won 12 of their last 13 games.

Prediction

Colombia have put together an extraordinary 28-game unbeaten run but they have a poor record against Argentina, winning nine of 43 meetings and they could be second best at the Hard Rock Stadium.

Not since February 2022 have Colombia tasted defeat but their conquerors on that occasion were Argentina, who secured a 1-0 home success in a World Cup qualifier.

Nestor Lorenzo’s side have impressed over the last few weeks but they had to dig deep for their 1-0 semi-final success over Uruguay — playing the entire second half with 10 men — and may not be fully recovered in time for the final.

Argentina have been solid rather than spectacular but they have racked up four clean sheets and their solid defence could hold the key to winning without needing a penalty shootout.
