Everton are one of six Premier League mainstays — with their finishing positions ranging from fourth to 17th.

That 31-year period includes plenty of club legends but several others who only made a fleeting impression.

We take a look at 10 players you may have forgotten ever featured for the Toffees.

Marco Materazzi (1998-99)

Years before the incident Marco Materazzi is best known for, he spent 12 months at Goodison Park.

That stint featured just 31 appearances before he moved back to Italy, eventually signing for Inter and provoking Zinedine Zidane's infamous World Cup final headbutt.

Mark Hughes (2000)

Mark Hughes had a superb top-flight career but his time at Everton was the most forgettable part of it.

Incredibly, he was also Wales manager during the period in which he signed up for the Merseysiders, where he played 18 matches and scored one goal.

Paul Gascoigne (2000-02)

Hughes and Paul Gascoigne were briefly team-mates at Everton, starting five games together at the start of the 2000-01 season.

The England legend spent a couple of troubled years at the club before leaving in 2002.

David Ginola (2002)

The Toffees' attraction to big names stretched to snapping up David Ginola in 2002.

The Frenchman played just seven matches before deciding enough was enough and announcing his intention to move into acting.

Jo (2009-10)

Jo was one of Thaksin Shinawatra's last signings as Manchester City owner before he sold the club to the current Abu Dhabi-based group.

It did not work out for the striker, though, and he was farmed out to Goodison Park for two loan spells — the first of which was a success but the second was halted after he returned to Brazil without permission over Christmas.

Philippe Senderos (2010)

Philippe Senderos' Arsenal career was winding down when he was sent out on loan to Everton in January 2010.

He did not make any kind of impact at Goodison Park, playing twice in the league and moving to Fulham that summer.

Royston Drenthe (2011-12)

Royston Drenthe was considered one of the world's best young talents when he signed for Real Madrid in 2007 and there was excitement among Everton fans when he arrived on loan in 2011.

He showed glimpses of his ability on Merseyside but was eventually dropped for indiscipline and missed the FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

Samuel Eto'o (2014-15)

Twelve years after Ginola and Gascoigne left, Everton signed another former world-class player coming to the end of his career.

Samuel Eto'o left Chelsea and hooked up with Roberto Martinez's Toffees, where he scored four goals in 20 matches before departing six months into a two-year deal.

Davy Klaassen (2017-18)

Everton's infamous summer of 2017 recruitment saw them sign Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaasen, all of whom wanted to play in the same position.

Klaasen was the unlucky fall guy, featuring just 16 times before Werder Bremen signed him for a fee much smaller than had originally been paid.

Eliaquim Mangala (2018)

Man City signed Eliaquim Mangala in 2014 for a figure that reportedly made him the most expensive defender in history.

He did not cut the mustard and joined Everton on loan in January 2018, where he suffered a season-ending injury in his second match.
