AFC Wimbledon moved into the League Two play-off places with a 2-0 win over Tranmere at Prenton Park.

Goals from Matty Stevens and Omar Bugiel took the Dons up to seventh in the table as struggling Rovers suffered their second defeat in a week.

In a frantic opening Kristian Dennis twice came close to giving the home side the lead while Luke McGee denied James Ball at the other end.

Dennis was involved again in the 19th minute, firing narrowly wide from close range after a nice passing move from Tranmere.

But it was the Dons who went ahead eight minutes before the break when Stevens steered home Callum Maycock’s cross from close range.

Jordan Turnbull had a glorious chance to pull Rovers level before half-time, only to turn the ball over the bar when it seemed easier to score.

The visitors doubled their lead seven minutes after the break when Bugiel nodded home James Tilley’s cross to seal the victory and pile more pressure on Tranmere boss Nigel Adkins.
