Arsenal to win and both teams to score

Mikel Arteta will be hoping a midweek win in the north London derby can be the catalyst for an Arsenal resurgence and they follow that 2-1 win up with another home game, this time against an improving Aston Villa outfit.

Former Gunners boss Unai Emery saw his side claim three points against Everton in midweek to make it four games unbeaten, but a trip to the Emirates is a step up from their recent successes and will undoubtedly be a tougher test for the Villans.

Team news

Bukayo Saka remains the biggest miss for Arsenal as he continues his recovery and he is joined by Gabriel Jesus after the Brazilian suffered a serious knee injury last weekend.

Ethan Nwaneri makes it a trio of attacking absentees, while Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are absent at the back.

Central defenders Pau Torres and Diego Carlos and midfield duo John McGinn and Ross Barkley are all out injured for Villa, while winger Jaden Philogene has left to join Ipswich Town.

Ollie Watkins has scored in two of his last three Premier League appearances for Aston Villa.

The stats

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League fixtures and the Gunners have won seven and drawn three of their 10 home league matches this season.

Villa have lost five of their last six top-flight away games, while both teams to score has landed in six of the Villans' last eight competitive games.

Three of the last four meetings between these two sides have been won by the away side and won with a clean sheet.

Prediction

Two goals in the space of four minutes turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead in the north London derby on Wednesday and that narrow victory could mark the beginning of a revival for Arsenal after a difficult start to 2025.

They trail Newcastle in the EFL Cup semi-final and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United, but they remain unbeaten in 11 Premier League games and have won seven of those.

The Gunners have seemed frail at the back recently, though. They have only kept two clean sheets in their last eight fixtures and could struggle to shut out a Villans side who have netted seven goals in their last four fixtures.

Both teams have scored in six of the Villa's last eight games so expect goals at both ends at the Emirates but, with five defeats in their last six league away days, it could be a difficult return to the Emirates for former Gunners boss Emery.
