These two locked horns recently on the grass in Hertogenbosch and Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor made the most of home advantage, edging to a 6-7 7-6 7-6 victory.

Griekspoor went on to reach the semi-final of that tournament while he also took world number one Sinner to a deciding set in Halle subsequently.

A straight-sets victory over Daniel Elahi Galan in his opening contest suggests he can frank that form with Miomir Kecmanovic, who needed four sets to edge past India’s Sumit Nagal.

Griekspoor is improving all the time and he may have more gears than his Serbian opponent, who has gone past round two at Wimbledon only once in four tries.

Being a British Grand Slam champion, the hype surrounding Emma Raducanu can sometimes be unwanted pressure, but her game looks in a strong place and she should have too many gears for Belgium’s Elise Mertens.

Raducanu has taken time to find her feet following her US Open heroics in 2021 but she made the semi-final in Nottingham and quarter-final at Eastbourne, highlighting herself as a potential Wimbledon dark horse.

The 21-year-old eased past first-round Renata Zarazua, winning 7-6 6-3 and she can build on that by beating Mertens, who has lost five of her last seven matches and is on a steady decline.

Diana Shnaider looks like a player capable of going all the way to the top and the 20-year-old Russian can claim the scalp of 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens.

Shnaider warmed up for Wimbledon by winning her second career title on the WTA Tour in Bad Homburg, which came on the back of a quarter-final run in Birmingham.

Having accounted for 2021 Wimbledon runner-up Karolina Pliskova in the opening round, Shnaider has lost only one of her last nine grass-court matches and she is going to be a tough nut to crack.

Stephens has lost seven of her last nine matches and once challenging for Grand Slam titles, she is now a player blighted by inconsistencies.

Bet 4: Emma Navarro to beat Naomi Osaka

Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka is still on the way back, having missed five of the last eight major competitions and she looks a vulnerable favourite against Emma Navarro.

Osaka did well to come through her first-round clash with Diane Parry, having twice been a break down in the deciding set, but she made 38 unforced errors and this is tougher.

Navarro, at world number 17, was a semi-finalist on the grass of Bad Homburg in the build up to Wimbledon and she eased past Qiang Wang 6-0 6-2 in the opening round.
