Novak Djokovic’s bid for a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title gets underway against Pedro Cachin and the slick Serb is expected to make light work of Argentina’s world number 67.

Djokovic has won four straight Wimbledon titles and has not suffered defeat at the All England Club since 2017, suggesting a routine triumph should follow for the reigning champ.

Jannik Sinner, Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud and Taylor Fritz are some of the other seeded stars in action on day one of the men’s draw.

World number one Iga Swiatek is the headline act in the women’s event and the French Open champion kickstarts her Wimbledon campaign against China’s Lin Zhu.

Russia’s Daria Kasatkina, seeded 11th, and American duo Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff are three others hoping to showcase their title credentials on Monday.

Bet 1: Alexander Bublik to beat Mackenzie McDonald

Alexander Bublik hasn’t always had the dedication to match his raw talent, but things clicked for the classy Kazakh in Halle recently.

In that German grass-court event, Bublik passed every test with flying colours as he defeated Borna Coric, Jan-Lennard Struff, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev to take the title.

Given four of those opponents are seeded at Wimbledon, that shows his capabilities when in the mood and a one week lay-off following that title triumph should stand him in good stead against Mackenzie McDonald.

The American is also in decent touch, having made the semi-finals in Eastbourne, but he has had a quicker turnaround and enjoyed a much easier route to the final four. 

Bublik’s extra class should tell and with confidence restored he will be a dangerous proposition.

Bet 2: John Isner to beat Jaume Munar

John Isner was a Wimbledon semi-finalist in 2018 and although the 38-year-old is not the force of old, the American veteran should still be too strong for Jaume Munar.

Despite his advancing years, Isner remains one of the biggest servers on the ATP Tour and that potent weapon may be too hot for Munar to handle.

The Spaniard is at his most vulnerable on grass and has won only one of his 11 competitive matches on the surface, suggesting the big-serving Isner can prevail.

Bet 3: Katerina Siniakova to beat Qinwen Zheng

Qinwen Zheng is rated a slight favourite for her opening-round clash with Katerina Siniakova, but that looks way wide of the mark as the Czech player is in title-winning form.

Siniakova arrives at Wimbledon having won a grass-court title in Bad Homburg, where she won five matches and dropped only one set.

Siniakova, the defending doubles champion, knows these Wimbledon courts extremely well and she can continue her rich vein of form against Zheng, who has lost six of her last eight grass-court encounters.

Bet 4: Maria Camila Osorio Serrano to beat Elisabetta Cocciaretto

Maria Camila Osorio Serrano made a good fist of things on her recent Eastbourne adventure, beating Cristina Bucsa, Heather Watson and Shelby Rogers before bumping into Jessica Pegula.

Osorio did take a set off Pegula, who is seeded four at Wimbledon, and a reproduction of those recent efforts should ensure she has the measure of Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

The Colombian won five matches, including qualifiers, as she made the third round at SW19 in 2021 whereas her Italian opponent has limited experience on the grass, playing only three competitive matches on the turf since 2018.
